(Columbia) Dec. 7, 2004 - The Black Coaches Association is calling for boycott of USC after the school ignored the group's recommendation for a more open, comprehensive search before Steve Spurrier was named to replace Lou Holtz.
Floyd Keith is the BCA's director, "There was an announcement and a hire that was so fast that a jackrabbit couldn't have had a family between all that."
What the BCA wants, what they're trying to do is to at least have the chance to promote African-American candidates. All they ask is when a school has an opening that at least the BCA is consulted.
Spurrier, of course, was officially hired just one day after Lou stepped down. We know now that no other candidate was even talked to. The BCA says they have no problem with Spurrier, but they do have a problem with the process of how schools make their hires.
USC issued a statement on Tuesday. Dr. Mike McGee saying, "We had the opportunity to replace an accomplished and national championship coach with another. The window for that to occur was clearly uncertain."
Keith isn't buying that line. He says Spurrier wasn't going anywhere and he played golf all winter.

Groups such as the BCA don't want a color bling society because it would mean the end of the race-based groups, and therefore of their influence. As long as these "community leaders" keep it about race, they have a say in governance (be it in football or in Washington)--and power is not easy to give up.
Yeah. I watched the Miss White USA Pageant instead but was interrupted by a telemarketer asking for a donation to the United Whitey College Fund.
Amen. Imagine the outrage if whites formed a bunch of "associations" like this. NAAWP, WCA, Congressional White Caucus, etc. There would be a whole line of lawyers waiting to sue them out of existence. Ironically, most of the lawyers would probably be white guys. Black America desperately needs to cast off the chains that it insists on keeping itself bound with. As long as this continues, there will always be racism in this country. Blacks have to wake up and realize that they are bringing much of it on themselves through their own racist actions. As ye sow, so also shall ye reap...and all that jazz.
Was that right after the telemarketer call you got from the NAAWP?
That's a real one, FWIW. http://www.naawp.com/
I'm personally offended by White Chamber of Commerce and Association of White General Contractors groups, not to mention White History month and that white 12 day holiday around Christmas I just made up.
Why would anyone hire a black coach? If you ever had to fire him, you would have to close the program down.
I, for one, can't stand Notre Dame but their program will be destroyed by firing their coach.
Anyone who would hire a black coach is asking for suicide.
Made up is right. http://www.africawithin.com/karenga/karenga_bio.htm
I had no idea!
Where I work they are religious about "diversity." So they honor Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, blah, blah, blah. I never once have seen an award from being Norwegian, German, whatever.
Bottom line: apparently, you can only be racist if you are white! These people are so hypocritical!
There is a NAAWP, and it's a racist organization headed by David Duke. About the same thing as today's version of Bond's NAACP.
I wasn't consulted! I believe I will sue too. (this is how ridiculous this is)
With the recent firings, doesn't the Black Coaches Association only have 3 members?
Why the hell not? They get everything they ask for! It's time to put an end to their crap!
Ping!
I know it's a typo, but it's somehow apt!
Their name was "Fightin' Whites".
And the furor over T-shirt logo?
"Everythang's going to be all white"
To paraphrase sKerry, "Can I still get me on of them thar shirts?"
Nor was I consulted. What the Hell is going on here? We'll sue these clowns into bankruptcy. They want to play rough? We'll show 'em!
