NEW YORK (Reuters) - Singer Mary Travers, 68, of Peter, Paul & Mary fame, is undergoing chemotherapy for a form of leukemia, but she is expected to be in full remission within a few months, her publicist said on Tuesday.
"Mary looks forward to touring again with the trio soon, and is grateful for the well wishes that have come to her from all over the world," the statement said.
No other details were released.
The folk trio, which also includes Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey, is known for such hits as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Puff The Magic Dragon." They released their self-titled debut album in 1962 and have won five Grammys (news - web sites) over the years.
I was just yesterday singing Lemon Tree with my 3 year old grandchild. I wish her a full recovery.
All my old PP&M albums are stored at my mother's house. Even she enjoyed them but was sad to hear about PY's child molestation rap.
I hope she recovers but these people were nasty Stalin shills like Pete Seeger. Paul Stookey is also a convicted pedophile. Typical lefties. I hope she gets well but they are loathesome Stalinists.
Took my kids to see them a few years back, and have worn out several CD's through the years. We pray for a full recovery.
Fun music.
Lousy politics.
Hope she's not in pain.
Peter Yarrow.
Hope Mary is in Full Recovery soon!
They got a good thing going when the words don't get in the way...yeah.
One of my favorites:
Morning Train
Elaina Mezzetti
I'm goin' home on the morning train
I'm goin' home on the morning train
I'm goin' home on the morning train
If you don't see me you can hear me singing
All my sins been taken away, taken away.
Sister Mary wore three links of chain
Sister Mary wore three links of chain
Sister Mary wore three links of chain
On each link was my Jesus name
All my sins been taken away, taken away.
I'm on my way to the freedom land
I'm on my way to the freedom land
I'm on my way to the freedom land
Lord God Almighty hold my hand
All my sins been taken away, taken away.
Well I don't know but I been told
Streets in heaven paved in gold.
Keep your hand on that plow, hold on.
Hold on, hold on, keep your hand on that plow, hold on.
The devil he has a slippery shoe
And if you don't watch out he'll slip it on you
Keep your hand on that plow, hold on.
Hold on, hold on, keep your hand on that plow, hold on.
I'm goin' home on the morning train
I'm goin' home on the morning train
I'm goin' home on the morning train
If you don't see me you can hear me singing
All my sins been taken away, taken away.
I hope she gets better quickly.
Play us a song, Pedro.
My prayers are with her
My very favorite story of the recent election is when Martin Frost, former extreme progressive sleaxy Congressman from Texas had them (Peter, Paul & Mary) scheduled to perform at a fundraiser. Some noble citizen pointed out that Peter Yarrow was a child molester (pardoned by Jimmah Carter, the same guy who pardoned Viet Cong Kerry) and Frost, rather publically, withdrew the invitation.
Thus, Peter was outed by another lefftie liberal progressive, the very thing that the commies refused to do before the HUAC. Who says Bush isn't making progress with the neocommunists?
So, some of you may extend the foregiveness of Christian charity to her. I don't! If Stalin were still a factor, she'd be backing his ideals and singing to us as they marched us into the gulags. Look at the ANSWER demonstartions; I believe you'll find PP&M will perform at many of them.
I never knew much about their politics, but used to like their music when I was young.
I saw Mary on TV the other night. She looked terrible.
As far as I know - Paul Stookey was the pedophile not Peter Yarrow.
Yes they were communists like most folk singers.
And, I really enjoyed their music when I was young and uninformed.
The only thing worse than her politics is her music. Thoroughly hideous. Irredeemably execrable. Cheesy. Soulless. Devoid of any musical vitality or lyrical value. And those are the positive things you can say. As for her personally, as for all of God's kids, I wish her well. But I hope she'll see the light and develop some musical taste.
