Civic group says nuts to 'Peanuts'
Feels two bronzes mar Rice Park's character
BY KARL J. KARLSON

A group concerned about the appearance of downtown St. Paul is asking the City Council to find a new home for bronze statues of "Peanuts" characters Peppermint Patty and Marcie that were installed in Rice Park in September.
The Ross Group, an 11-member women's organization that has been involved for about a dozen years in downtown beautification efforts, claims the statues were installed with little or no public input and are not in keeping with the historic nature and character of the park.
In particular, they say, the Charles Schulz cartoon characters clash with the park's statue of St. Paul-born author F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Believe it or not, I was the one with the idea for the bronze statues!
The Peanuts characters are some of the most eduring childrens icons the U.S. has. The skanks should be told to go to hell.
No matter how many times you watch the Charlie Brown cartoons, they touch your heart. And that is what Charles Schultze wanted to accomplish. What a beautiful man he was.
BTW, Charlie Brown Christmas tonight at 7 PM CST...
;)
I have never seen those statues before thanks for posting those pics.
F. Scott Fitzgerald stinks the Peanuts are way better. I say get rid of the Fitzgerald statue (perhaps melt it down and make a Calvin and Hobbes statue out of it)
Charles Schulz and Mel Blanc two men who have been cemented into the lives of many, many people whether they know it or not.
Just goes to show, some people are so bitter that they will complain over anything. If I were mayor/city manager/superintendent of a park district, I would gladly take those statues off their hands and place them with pride.
I like them! Tell the activist skanks to bite me.

I believe it! Congratulations! I love this kind of public art. Kids will sit next to these sculptures, hug them, talk to them, and have a great time. Thanks!!!
These people have nothing to complain about - at least you can tell what these sculptures are supposed to represent.
My city recently put up a huge rusted metal coil in front of the renovated convention city. Nothing spells 'Colorful Colorado' like giant pieces of rusted metal!
Lijah's bubbe's fault!
Thanks! I'm really proud of it. It's a great feeling to know I mad a mark on the city, being just an average joe citizen!
BTW, these ladies don't know what's about to hit them. You don't mess with Charlie Brown! Most people adore the peanuts characters and are very proud of the fact that Charles Schultze lived here!

Oh man....LOL!! I feel sorry for you.
I agree with them. Sounds like Fitzgerald's got to go.
Good Job!!
