I wonder how many headlines will underscore that "necessary"...

War on terror, although NECESSARY, prompts "Christianophobia"

Yes, the War on Terror is necessary...but the claim that it'll prompt "Christianophobia" is pure nonsense.

First off, I haven't seen any Christians sawing the heads off of defenseless Muslims while shouting "God is great!"

Secondly, "Christianophobia" existed LONG before the War on Terror. Hell, look at how bent out of shape the ACLU and other Leftists are about it. Just show one crucifix or sing one Christmas carol and *WAAAAH*, they totally lose it and start filing lawsuits.

that a new form of racism, the hate for Christians

Note to the good Father. That racism has been around for a long long time.

"Christianophobia" has been around much longer than the Vatican admits, or the WOT has promulgated.

The liberal-socialist-commie-nazi-fascist media of all stripes, has and will continue to cover it up, as usual.

Your cynicism will probably be accurate...western countries have become so ignorant of their Judeo/Christian-based legal, ethical and moral codes, evolved over centuries, that they can't recognize the chasm of difference between "us" and "them". The clash is inevitable, however, it will be of great interest as to how the Vatican deals with it going forward..this Pope is ill and towards the end of his reign. His experience with both types of 20th century totalitarianism (Nazi and Communist) provided him tremendous insight regarding dealing with them and possibly with Islam. In the end I don't see much difference between these ideologies as it relates to managing people and governments. Let the games continue...maybe it isn't too late for Europe (or us?) if they rid themselves of the materialism that has become their religion and focus again on what might save them, the sincere and devout practice of Christianity.

The hatred of Islam, the political theory, is different than the hatred of Islam, the religion.

We hate Islamofascism. If more mulsims would stand up to denounce the mulsim supremist political theory of Islam, we would not need to challenge "all" of Islam.

Unfortunately, Mad Man Mo' put a defense mechanism in his twisted blood cult. He was the "last" prophet so their can be no Islamic reformation. The only reform that the lost sheep can engage in is to convert to the Judeo-Christian Bible (since they cite the same origins, albeit rewritten by Mohammed).

Shaira Law, jihad, et al are signs of a political theory, not a religion. We don't tolerate Nazism either.

Isaiah 66:5 Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

I think he's confusing cause and effect. The terrorists' war on us is the result of Christianophobia, and Judeaphobia, and all-other-religions-including-moderate-Islamophobia.

It's not the war on terror, it's the anti-Christian bigotry of the liberal left that does the trick.

The Vatican is in a cleft stick, because they are responsible for the welfare of millions of Christians who are exposed to Muslim violence, and they have no military to protect them.

Nevertheless, this is clearly a stupid lie. The twentieth century produced more Christian martyrs than all the previous nineteen. The two chief causes of these martyrdoms were Communism and Islam. Christians have been persecuted in Muslim countries for fourteen hundred years. And proselytism has been forbidden. Missionaries have been murdered. Nothing new about this at all.

While I totally agree with the WOT and have been a very vocal supporter of Dubya's here in Italy, I don't think Archbishop Lajolo was complaining about anything. He was just stating facts. To me - mostly after years of biased reporting of the Vatican position about war, which VERY different from what we're used to think - it was very heartening to read that "necessary". He was speaking to scholars and US diplomats. This is a call to self conscience.
On the other side, the Vatican is not just a religious institution. They can't merge with one side. The Pope is the pastor of all men, even those who are darn wrong. At this moment, there are million among muslisms who won't follow the terrorists and their tyrants but are in need of a word from someone they can trust and that their leaders can't bash to harshly. It's important to undermine consensus. It's freedom we want to bring. The Vatican performs a fundamental diplomatic role -beside evangelization - and their activity is fundamental to reach places and persons you couldn't deal with otherwise.

If the war is deemed >"necessary" then the anti-crhistian feeling is unjustified. There will be less ground for the progressive catholic groups to claim tha this war is "imperialistic", and loyal catholics and patriots will be able to defend freedom with one more argument.

Always keep in mind that just like in the rest of the world and even in the USA the Amercan position is reported in a blatantly biased way by the MSM, so it is about the Vatican.

Monsignor Giovanni Lajolo ought to read the Bible. Jesus predicted "Christianophobia." Jesus said believers would be hated simply for their faith.

The Vatican pharmacy must be a hoppin' place. Anyone with a few braincells and knowledge of history knows that christians have very little to do with the war on terror. It's the islamic world vs. everyone else. Islam hates anything that stands in it's path and historically christians have been at the forefront of protecting western european values and interests for a few tens of centuries, so it's just guilt by association.

After the church sex-abuse scandal, the Vatican gets it wrong again. Hatred of Jews and Christians is the cause not the effect of Islamofascism.

=== This war, although necessary,

I'd love to know what they have on the Vatican's quislings. Must be good.
