Your staff opinion on the situation raised by throngs of illegal alien men standing on streets is far off the mark.
It is not, as the opinion piece puts forth, a solution that arises out of fear or intolerance. It is not rooted in race, color, creed or gender. The reaction is a product of law or, rather, the lack of consideration for our laws.
Illegal immigration is a federal crime. While some say that illegal immigration is a civil crime, it is penalized with imprisonment on those detained a second time.
Employment of illegal aliens is also a crime that is not enforced for political reasons and pressures.
To use community assets to support the prolonged stay and permanence of illegal aliens in the community would leave the municipal government vulnerable to legal tort for assisting illegal aliens in their continuous and ongoing criminal endeavor.
All it would take to test this is a vehicular manslaughter that involves an illegal alien living or working within the community. If I were to lose a loved one like this, Id sue the illegal alien; those who can be demonstrated to have employed him and provided him with shelter, vehicle; and the city for creating an environment fostering the presence of illegal aliens.
In a but-for argument, the tolerance of elected officials leaves the taxpayer holding the bag.
Councilwoman Ann Null's position of using the local law enforcement agents to enforce other laws that apply to all, or should apply to all, and arrest those who are violating loitering ordinances is not out of line.
To encourage our communities to forge better relations with their growing Latino populations that are made up of illegal aliens is similar to putting out the welcome mat for the newly arrived crack cocaine vendor and his home invasion posse.
As a Hispanic, as a citizen, as a prior serviceman and as someone who has lived and traveled throughout most of Latin America, I cannot condone illegal immigration. That is, unless we want to sink into third world standards.
We already are behaving like a banana republic with the arguments to extend driving privilege permits (licenses) and in-state tuition to illegal aliens of diverse ages.
Law is portrayed as a blind woman with a sword and a set of scales. She is blind to privilege and pity, her judgment is based on strict and unbiased weighing of the facts and her consequences should cut evenly and sharply like her sword.
Illegal aliens want specious treatment when it comes to all laws that are inconvenient to obey. They desire to become like those of us who do abide by all the laws and regulations, like those regarding immigration, employment and identity documents.
Is complying with our laws too much to ask of uninvited guests? Apparently it is.
It is due to abuses like these that Proposition 200 did so well in Arizona. Wait until its local iteration arrives to a ballot near you. I'll help gather signatures and vote for it. How's that for proactive?
I think I'll do some research on Mr. Rodriguez' lawsuit idea...
Mr. Rodriguez states it well. The law is the law.
And we need politicians who rememeber that respecting the law is a conservative value.

Thank God. A man with a brain and a sense of truth and honor.
Too bad our President doesn't come to this standard on this subject.
I was very lucky to be able to attend this event. Randy Graf attended also. Bob Eggle shared the podium with Rep. Steve King. The presentations were very good and informative. The attendees were very enthused about immigration reform and ready to go to battle. President Bush's current immigration policies and proposals took a severe beating.
One interesting presentation was given by Howard Foster an attorney for the firm of Johnson and Bell. He has found an EXCELLENT new area for trial attorneys to litigate and sue the hell out of big companies. He's already got five RICO lawsuits against large companies who are brazenly employing illegal aliens. All 5 were kicked out of court by judges and all 5 have been reinstated on appeal. He is very confident that he will win HUGE awards on all 5 suits. These victories will send a chill through the hearts of companies who employ illegal aliens. His message was to stop whining, stop complaing, stop writing your congressman - SUE THE HELL OUT OF THESE PEOPLE!
Rep. King (R-IA) was the keynote speaker. He was very inspiring. He's sounds like Tom Tancredo and if his hair was slightly different he would actually look just like Tom Tancredo. Anyway, he gave us a lot of inside information about what is going on in the halls of Congress right now over the 9/11 Intelligence Reform bill. This is a CRITICAL battle right now and we need to kill the watered down version of the bill to send a message to the White House that the election is over and we're not going to be bullied around on immigration reform and border security. Everything in the bill was recommended by the 9/11 commission - to include the ban on drivers licenses for illegal aliens. That a Senate Republican, at Sen Frist's behest, would strip that portion out is an outrage! The commission report must stopped!
Oh my goodness, speaking of Pat Buchanan, I just changed the channel and Pat Buchanan is on with Ali G! This is just wrong!

I agree with you that we need to do everything possible to stop this bill. I'll be using the 800 numbers Monday from work while on break.
Naturally, I'll be calling some Democrats. I will be suggesting that they listen to Hillary on this and close the borders and secure America. I'll also say that I am sure that Hillary would not give drivers licenses to illegals.
Excellent news, Spiff. Almost as good as the news that Asa is headed back to Arkansas. ;)
Regulating business for the common good (fascism), by providing low cost laborers, is no different in principle than outright nationalisation (communism).

Instead of illegal immigration or illegal alien, we need to start using the correct term "CRIMINAL INVADER".

For those that don't know, faxes about the upcoming 9/11 bill are up at
www.numbersusa.com
It's free, the faxes are pre-addressed to all the usual suspects in the White House and Congress, and they're pre-written. Your own comments can be added for emphasis.
It seems as though the Dems and now the Republicans are selling us out!! I am so sick of this CRAP!!
Is there some LegaL Group who will sue the Government to enforce our laws. That really sounds stupid, sue your own Government to enforce the Laws that they have passed. The President and Congress are supposed to protect and defend our boarders, they are doing just the opposite. This must be unconstitutional?!!
I think we should all take a cue from Mr. Rodriguez who wrote this letter to the editor. He's on to something and I'd bet there are plenty of precedents in case law.
To paraphrase Sun Tzu, use the enemy's strengths to your own advantage. I need to re-read a few sections in the original Chinese. There are critical nuances that don't translate well into modern colloquial English. I think they would fly right over the heads of the very best lawyers in this country.
