Oftentimes, early preliminary reports are innacurate. They might upgrade it.

I like the way the dog reacts before the shaking starts

I am in Eureka. I have been through several of these. In 92 we had 3 in 24 hours from 6.8 to 7.3 and then there were the big ones... ;^)

I like the way the dog reacts before the shaking startsIt seems that simple minded critters always seem to be the first to sense such things.
If it weren't for my cat, Pebbles, I would have been blind sided by the (ex) wife's divorce decree.

Wait for a 6.9; Loma Prieta was centered 3 miles away...

I gotta know............how in heck did Pebbles keep you from being blind-sided by the ex?
LOL

Your post just reminded of a funny bit of area history.
A few years back, the state required that all the local communities prepare a disaster plan for handling "the big one". The plan was to include information on how the community would deal with the tidal wave caused by a quake somewhere up the coast. As you know, Samoa sits on a peninsula between the ocean and Humboldt bay, and the highest spot in the area is the sand dunes about fifty feet above sea level. When they filed their plan for handling a tidal wave it essentially just said "run for the hills".
A quake to the east is kind of unusual. Usually it's down off the coast near Petrolia where all those faults and plates come together.

:'). Before a quake, do your animals sense or feel something happening?
