Six sentenced in beating death of homeless man

PATERSON, N.J. -- Six teens who were part of a mob who beat to death a homeless man three years ago were sentenced to prison for their part in the "wilding" rampage.

The six Paterson youths were sentenced Friday for being part of the crowd of 16 youths charged in the killing of Hector Robles in June 2001.

It is the admitted shutting down of any conscience by the group as they go on these planned rampages for fun. Once they get going they are rabid animals and quite evil.

The Central Park Jogger case was an example of "wilding."

I have a problem with justice that gives you 7 years for robbery but only 5 for taking a human life.

Thought the same thing myself, pretty light sentences for killing a human being no matter which one made the final stomp that killed him.......

Robles, 42, who was sitting on a tire sipping a bottle of beer, was beaten and stomped to death. An autopsy showed he was kicked so hard that his spleen ruptured and his liver split nearly in half.

Jawon White, 20, Francisco Rodriguez, 20, and Shohmahree Brown-Paris, 20, were sentenced to a year in the county jail after pleading guilty to riot charges. Henry Robinson, 19, was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Sean Farrar, 20, was sentenced to seven years after pleading guilty to robbery, riot and aggravated assault. Freddy Rivera, 20, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and riot and got a three-year prison term.

The judge who handed out these sentences deserves the death penalty.

Sad at the social implications. Reminds me of a study I read about years ago where one person was hooked up to a device to be shocked if the person gives a wrong answer to questions. Can't remember all the details. What the study found was that subjects would deliberately shock the person when they observed others doing it, regardless if the person showed pain and discomfort. Completely disassociating themselves from any self-thought or emotion.

High school students in Paterson have routinely marked the last day of the school year with rowdy behavior. Robles was killed in what authorities described as a "wilding" attack in which the mob set upon whomever they encountered.

Originated in the Central Park Jogger case. When one of the kids accused was given the "perp walk," a reporter asked "what were you doing?" and he replied, "Doin' the wild thing..." The reporter misunderstood and reported it as "wilding," which came to mean teens out of control in packs.

While I was in the jury room I could not believe that there were people in that room with me who actually thought that John was innocent of murder at all. It was like pulling teeth to get them to see the truth of the matter that HE is GUILTY of Hector's death. Keep a eye out on the book that I am writing from this juror's view point.
