Leading Sunni cleric condones Iraqi 'resistance'
Egypt's highest authority in Sunni Islam has legitimised the "resistance" in Iraq on Friday and called on Iraqis to unite in order to return stability to the war-wracked country, state media has reported.
"The Iraqi resistance has the right to defend its land, its fatherland and its right to independence," Sheikh Mohammed Sayed Tantawi, resident imam of Cairo's Al-Azhar mosque, was quoted as saying by the Mena news agency.
He also called on "all Iraqi communities to unite so as to make a serious commitment to restore stability in Iraq," Mena said.
Sheikh Tantawi was speaking during the opening of a restored mosque in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

Iraqi resistance to what? Their US Liberators? The scumbag terrorists?
I think the Iraqi Guard and Police are starting to do a fine job. I hope they are able to provide the stability that Iraq needs to turn that area into a good place to live rather than the shi'ite-hole it is now.

I would hope that in some other time, we'd have a CIA capable and willing to "disappear" such an enemy of ours.
Until all these clerics Mullahs and Imam's "dissapear" They will keep recruiting. It's pointless to mop up the water before turning off the tap.

This is all about Iraq now becoming a Shiite dominated state instead of a Sunni dominated state as before. Egypt is Sunni.
This whole Iraq situation is shifting to s Shiite-Sunni civil war. And I'll bet the reason there were no desertions this time is because the Iraqi Army units are entirely Kurdish or Shiite.
Does this guy want Saddam back? Back to the good old days of torture and death and a united peaceful Iraq? He's been in the poppy fields too long.
