Organization Founded by Denver Mayor Funded Gay Indian Group

Well folks, it appears that there is a VERY interesting nexus between the Mayor Hickenlooper/no Merry Christmas sign controversy, and the Parade of Lights/Gay Indians OK, church group not OK outrage. The Chinook Fund (www.chinookfund.org) is an organization which Denver Mayor Hickenlooper co-founded before becoming Mayor. According to their website, the Chinook Fund issued a $7,000.00 grant to the Two Spirit Society of Denver (gay Indian group) in 2004.

When asked by 630 KHOW radio if he agreed with the Downtown Denver Partnership's decision to allow the Two Spirit group to have a float in the Parade of Lights, while Faith Bible Chapel was denied the same permission, Mayor Hickenlooper initially answered that he didn't want to tell another group what to do, then when pressed further, simply refused to answer (and this was after he reversed his own edict regarding the Merry Christmas sign).

Anyone see a conflict of interest (or worse) here?

This sounds like something out of a Mel Brook's movie.

You guys crack me up! But on a more serious note, if you take a look at the Chinook Fund website (and also check out the link to the "Funding Exchange"), it will quickly become apparent that this is a blueprint for the future of Denver unless we fight back. If they want to fight for "the transformation of society" through the implementation of "progressive" initiatives, we have every right to fight back to preserve our Republic as it was founded.

"Chinook is looking for three individuals who are passionate about social justice work. All three must be willing to work in positions that require a really strong, sophisticated political analysis, including a clear understanding of oppression and privilege in regard to race, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, and ability. Job descriptions and how to apply can be found by clicking the following links:

Development Director

Anyone with a clear understanding of oppression out there looking for work?

I have nothing to say, but I can't get over his name. "Mayor Hickenlooper" sounds like a childrens' cartoon character

If you can rap (and, I presume, can hold your own in a gunfight), maybe you could become the director of the Colorado Hip-hop Coalition. Check out Chinook's list of Fall 2003 grantees for more info (do you think they realize how truly absurd this stuff appears?).

I know a multi-ethnic, bi-racial, transgendered homosexual who was a sperm baby birthed by an Asian-Jewish Native American Alaskan Malamute raised in Tuscaloosa Mississippi who once worked in Hooters under an affirmative action program, and marched in Selma, that might be interested.

Mission Statement The Chinook Fund is committed to the transformation of society into one that promotes social justice and freedom from oppression, including but not limited to: racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, ageism, and ableism.

Does anybody know what "ableism" is?

Also is a "heterosexist" a person who who hates heterosexuals?

Looks like the People's Republic of Boulder is opening up a satellite state in Denver.

You knew it would get bad after all the Californians started to move there...at least you should have known.

I presume "heterosexism" means the belief that heterosexuality is superior to homosexuality (which they disdain)... If they just practiced what they preached on this one, we would naturally be rid of them all within a generation or two.

"Ableism".... Sorry, misplaced my moron to English dictionary.

From the context of the (poorly) written sentence, I'd have to guess it's discrimination against cripples.

(LOL! Even the FR spell-checker doesn't recognize the word!)
