DALLAS A homeless Dallas man thought he had something special in a plate he inherited from a great-aunt. Apparently, he was right.
The Dallas Morning News reports the Czech factory that made the plate has authenticated it as having been made exclusively for the "Titanic."
Jay Sherman has told the newspaper that his great-aunt was a Titanic survivor.
Now Sherman -- who reportedly has been sleeping under a freeway bridge near downtown Dallas -- is offering the small plate for auction. It's listed on e-Bay with an opening bid of just under 50-thousand dollars.
The giant White Star liner sank in the North Atlantic in 1912 after striking an iceberg on its maiden voyage. About 15-hundred passengers and crew died.

Can Jay Sherman actually buy a home for $50,000? No but he can rent one of Bev Harris' motel rooms for a week

I can't possibly bid. Look at the feedback the auction house got from a buyer of a very rare camera. Otherwise of course, I would.

Barely, but he'll have to do without some of the basics, like an indoor heated pool, sauna, six-car garage, and helipad.

$50,000 is too high, even for the "Lady Di/JFK Camelot/Titanic" memorabilia dingbats.
$15,000 if he's lucky.

According to the website, his great aunt stole the plate before the ship sank.
She didn't even remember the stolen plate was in her purse when she boarded a lifeboat.

Suspect the sale is being handled by an attorney representing the great-aunt's estate.

Was Fred's ripple homemade, or was it produced by a regional vintner (used loosely)?

It was not homemade. I forget who makes it but I believe it ranks right up there with Night Train!
