Homeless man inherits a piece of the Titanic, puts it up on eBay. Opening Bid only $49,995.00

DALLAS A homeless Dallas man thought he had something special in a plate he inherited from a great-aunt. Apparently, he was right.

The Dallas Morning News reports the Czech factory that made the plate has authenticated it as having been made exclusively for the "Titanic."

Jay Sherman has told the newspaper that his great-aunt was a Titanic survivor.

Now Sherman -- who reportedly has been sleeping under a freeway bridge near downtown Dallas -- is offering the small plate for auction. It's listed on e-Bay with an opening bid of just under 50-thousand dollars.

The giant White Star liner sank in the North Atlantic in 1912 after striking an iceberg on its maiden voyage. About 15-hundred passengers and crew died.

Hey! Come on down to Hot Springs Arkansas --- Great Prices --- Great People --- We have lakes, fishing, boating, horse track and beautiful scenery with hot and cold springs.

But ... I would not recommend this for anyone under 40 --- too many of us "older" folks around here.

I still want that grilled cheese sandwich with Greta Garbo's face on it.

Forget that thing. There is now a dental X-Ray with Greta Van Sustren on it!

I've got 14 pieces of the Iceberg that sunk the Titanic in my Freezer. I have them individually secured in an ice cube tray suitable for collecting.

After the man left, she started looking at the plate closer. The longer she looked at the plate, the more she wanted it. Finally, she decided to take it as a memento to remember her voyage on the Titanic.

Probably why she was in second class

The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing.

Fly in the ointment here.

The letter says it was made exclusively FOR the Titanic, but not that it was ACTUALLY ON the Titanic. I don't know how one would PROVE that.

I can think of a variety of ways it could have found it's way out of the shop where it was made. I'd need some sort of verification the the lady was on the boat.

No, but the radio is always on. Sometimes you hear something of interest, and Truth is One.

I thought you had more than one browser open and had replied to this one thinking you were replying to another because you read the following, $50,000 is too high, even for the "Lady Di/JFK Camelot/Titanic" memorabilia dingbats. $15,000 if he's lucky.

And your reply was "Brian Wilson is 62. Beach Boys are 43, what's left of them. I was in a traffic jam on the Long Island Distressway 39? years ago [hot, bored, stuck] when the new tune Good Vibrations came over the radio. On first hearing it was nearly miraculous. It was amazing, everybody for miles that was tuned to that station was dancing and smiling all of a sudden, for a couple minutes. One of those moments."

I'm slow sometimes but I can't find the connection between those two anywhere. In the end it just doesn't matter though.

A homeless thread seemed a good place to stash a Beach Boys update.

How come every tortilla or grilled cheese sandwich that appears to have a woman on it, is the virgin Mary, and every natural phenomenom that looks like a bearded guy is Jesus? I am just curious...

What if it actually looks kinda like Richard Chamberlain in Shogun? Would you be honest and admit it, or put it up as Jesus on your pastrami sandwich on e-bay?

I would probably put it up as a Richard Chamberlane sub sandwich myself. Why should Jesus and Mary have the corner on the miraculous sandwich market? The little guy has to break in somewhere. Besides if I said it was Richard Chamberlain and I tried to pass it off as Jesus, I might...well.. you know... like go to hell.

Just saw that. In this case, I think "error" is a euphemism for "b*llsh*t" and that the poster who suggested "Titanic" on the plate may have nothing to do with the ill-fated ocean liner is probably correct.
