Millions of Muslims Tortured, Rights Groups Silent

While the International Red Cross, Amnesty International and other human rights groups have focused their ire on the alleged "torture" of terrorist suspects at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay, the human rights lobby has been silent on the torture of millions of Muslims not in U.S. captivity.

A survey reported Wednesday by the London Guardian found that women in Egypt, for instance, are regularly beaten by their husbands - and accept that form of torture as a fact of life under Islamic law.

The survey - sponsored by the Egyptian government - found that one woman in three had been tortured at some point by her husband, the Guardian said. "Of those women, 45 percent had been beaten at least once in the past year and 17 percent had been beaten three or more times during the same period."

The widespread torture is tolerated under the Shari'a (Islamic law), the Guardian said. The same system permits the abuse and even murder of Muslim women in countries throughout the Middle East.

Reports the Guardian:

"Violent husbands can generally avoid prosecution on religious grounds, because the Egyptian penal code excludes acts committed 'in good faith, pursuant to a right determined by virtue of the Shari'a.'

"Egyptian law also allows men - literally - to get away with murder," the paper said. "If a husband kills his wife in the act of committing adultery, it's only a misdemeanor but if a wife kills her husband for the same reason, then of course that's murder."

But even short of murder, torture of Muslim women is so widespread that it's become an ingrained part of the culture in many Muslim countries.

"Shocking as this may seem, most Egyptian women regard beating as a normal and more or less acceptable part of life," the Guardian said. "Almost 86 percent of the women surveyed thought husbands were justified in hitting their wives sometimes, and a large majority said a refusal to have sex was sufficient grounds for beating."

Egyptian women aged 20-29 told the government survey that spousal torture in the form of beating was acceptable for a range of other domestic "offenses."

• 70 percent said a beating was justified for "talking back" to a husband.

• 65 percent thought a beating was warranted if they were caught talking to another man.

• 42 percent said spending too much money justified a beating.

• 26 percent said merely burning the dinner could warrant the same kind of physical abuse.

Yeah, but at least these women didn't have jockey shorts or briefs put on their heads by male US soldiers. That would be REAL torture!

I LOVE Egyptian women. Must be a Cleopatra fetish or something. I once told one that I would never even consider, EVER, hitting a woman (what a novel concept) and she practically ate out of my hand from then on.

I don't understand why they don't just all come over into the civilized side of the planet. A lack of females just might convince the Muslims that their way of life isn't exactly the better way.

The inventor of Islam was a marketing genius. He knew that men were in control then, and giving them preferential treatment will insure more followers to Islam. The male followers' wives will be forced into that religion, whether they liked it or not. After this cult was ingrained in people's brain over the years, it is difficult now to find a PhD caliber Muslim women who can honestly see the obvious discrimination against them by the Koran! I have spoken to many Muslim women, and found them in defense of their faith, to the extent of justifying the systematic discrimination in the Koran against women. To their defense, I find that the Old Testament (to a much lesser degree) also discriminate against women.

Guess this doesn't interest the Int'l RED Cross either.

AFRICA'S FORGOTTEN WAR - the longest of the 20th century is still going strong in the 21st. Since 1955, the Islamic controlled Sudanese government has been engaged in an endless terrorist campaign against the Black Christians of Southern Sudan. In this compelling and hard hitting motion picture you will journey into the mountains of Sudan and witness the most recent example of global terrorism perpetrated by a Muslim government against its own citizens

What mainstream media refuses to report, is that these ongoing series of terrorist attacks are nothing short of a modern day holocaust, having already cost more than 2 million lives. This carefully crafted report documents the latest atrocities but also tells of a courageous group of people and their attempts to bring aid to the suffering Christians, despite the United Nations unwitting support of the oppressive government.

All of these organizations know that Muslims won't listen.

It would be a waste of time to tell people who mutilate their daughters, beat their wives, etc. etc. etc., don't give a rats ass what those limousine liberals think.

Actually, the mainstream media, as well as our government failed to identify, and articulate the Islamic aggression program for several decades. After the Iranian revolution allowed the fanatic Muslims access to the Iranian wealth. Its Mullah leaders allocated Billions of dollars to teach fanatic Islam to non-Moslems, and to convert moderate Muslims to radical Islam. This was met with matching enthusiasm by the Saudis, the "guardians of Islam"!

There has been dramatic forced expansion of that religion in Africa in the past few decades, which went unchallenged. The worst example is Sudan, of course where the systematic killing and enslavement have been going on for 25 years. Qaddafi once said that the problem with the Arab world is that it has Christian citizens living in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon. He said unless we convert "ALL" the Arab Christians to Islam, we will always have problems.

Now, here we have governmental budgets, and laws systematically working to eradicate millions of people with absolute no reaction from the rest of the world. I would love to have Bush come on TV and say publicly, we have no restrictions on Saudi Arabia building Mosques, and proselytizing in the US, and expect no less than equality, and reciprocation of favor. If the government of Saudi Arabia refuses to grant us equality of rights to build churches in their country, we will order the demolition of their funded mosques in ours.

You couldn't get away with it as the F#$%ING ACLU would get on their high horse and file suit after suit that you were violating their civil rights even though they are not citizens

CAIR probably claims they are being tortured by American culture. Show them the door. If they tarry, put a boot up their wazoo!

Demanding equal treatment from a third rate country by the most powerful country on earth is hardly asking too much. How is that violating any one's civil rights. A group of American Moslems can build as many mosques as they wish; however, if Saudi Arabia pays for such mosques, then it is only fair that the US be given receprocation or equality? Think about it, and response back in more details. Thanks.

You will never see the day when the Saudies give others the same treatment that they get from us. The US govt. has no backbone to demand it. I have a friend that was a minister in Saudi Arabia and had to quit and come home after about 2 years as they put every type of roadblock in his path.

I understand that they are not happy to treat others as equal; however, if we made a big stink that we MUST be afforded equality of treatment, and allowed the whole world to back us regarding reciprocating the favor, I don't see how they can win. It is obvious to the blind that favors MUST be a two ways street. The only reason they win is because most of our politicians are on the take from the Saudi embassy, and they pressure the decision makers, who are currently in office.

The United States has for far too long worried about how other country's see our actions. I say we should forget that and do what is right for our country. The opnly thing wrong with that is we have no politicians with any back bone to defy them.
