BONDS' TESTIMONY Giants star told grand jury he used clear substance, cream provided by trainer Greg Anderson, but believed they were flaxseed oil and arthritis balm
Barry Bonds told a federal grand jury that he used a clear substance and a cream supplied by the Burlingame laboratory now enmeshed in a sports doping scandal, but he said he never thought they were steroids, The Chronicle has learned.
Federal prosecutors charge that the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative, known as BALCO, distributed undetectable steroids to elite athletes in the form of a clear substance that was taken orally and a cream that was rubbed onto the body.

Everything these days is a cream or a patch...the 'pill', pain-management, etc.
never do the ends justify the means...however, the steroids thing is well overblown. You can look like a friggin Pro Wrestler and still not hit the ball out of the yard until you hit it right....and that is a very hard thing to do....
Human Growth Hormone (even homeopathically) was commonly used to speed recovery...is it 'illegal' now to keep one's HGH elevated to youthful levels?
McGwires use of Androstenedione was right out in the open. It was no secret. If I recall, a reporter saw it in his locker and turned it into a story. You think Barry Bonds had his "arthritis balm" sitting in his locker? I doubt it.
That's the best, mind if I "borrow" it?
Second the VERY FACT that BB had NEVER hit 50 home runs in a single season, ONLY to hit 73 in 01, and for the first 15 years of his career to have around a 550 slugging percentage only to average .805 for the past 4 years, post 36 years of age only deepens that CLOUD.
I love the game, and Bonds has done terrible damage to it, if this story is, as I suspect, true.
Steroids can improve your EYESIGHT, your REFLEXES, and give you an unfair advantage by making you up to 50% stronger than you could have possibly gotten with your "own" body -- and let you easily maintain your new size and strength ALL SEASON.
I agree but with the added strength a long fly ball turns into a home run. Is it just a coincidence that the home run numbers go up when you use any kind of steroid ?
See my post 48: great minds think alike!!
they are going well beyond youthful levels and true, it wasnt a rule until 2 years ago, but if he has done it since then, he deserves to get nailed for it....
the MLB testing and rules about this are a damn joke...
Actually quite a bit. Hormone creams are the preferred method for many doctors because they produce more constant levels of hormones with fewer highs and lows.
The whole league, Union included, is a freaking insult...
I think Bonds was a great player when he was able to steal bases...he cant anymore because he has put on so much weight.
The nice thing about McGwire and to a certain extent Sosa, is that they had a more natural curve to their home run years, except for injury and for Sosa, suspension years....
Bonds Bell Curve looks like a shuttle launch....
The Cream and the Cork...lol
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
true, but the guys that are the most suspected of doing the roids tend to hit "No Doubt" home runs....
It's very rare for a bit homerun hitter to barely get the ball out of the yard. They generally get too far under the ball to matter.
Guys like Sheffield and AROD are more line drive guys, whereas McGwire and Sosa tend to strike out more trying to hit the ball a mile....
What are you talking about? If you read the story, you would know that 4 have been charged in this case, including Anderson, Bond's trainer, who I was referring to.
Huh, I am learning something new today, thanks.
yeah and if you are expecting a 95 MPH fastball and get a 82 MPH slider, you can shoot all the roids you want, but you wont hit anything...
