In your zeal to limit the exposure your children get to the world...

I have a 14 year old that is starting to read Ulysses and owns well worn US Passport.

My kids do see the real world however, I would prefer that if know of my kids wants to learn about stem cell research that they consult a book written by someone that has a PHD in the field

Remember: most teacher training programs are liberal to the core: God is Dewey. There may be a few crypto conservative teachers out there but not many...not even in the red states.

How many teacher training programs have you been involved in? Mine happens to be rather conservative. I also have met quite a few conservative teachers.

Do you even know any actual, LIVE, teachers?

Dianna,

You must not understand. It appears that eleni121 only wants to outsource you job as parent and give it to the State.

Most college professors, whether in the education department or otherwise, are liberal.

I am a teacher in a red state. What are YOUR qualifications?

"...By expressing my views to my college professors and my fellow, (almost teacher) students"

I applaud your bravery...it can be a lonely and frustrating task having been through it.

Remember however, that teachers are not the sole guardians of society's morality or knowledge. Every member of society is protected by our constitutional rights and that includes the bus driver who simply announced her views and told the kids to relay the info to their parents. Most teachers in their arrogance would never think to tell the kids to do that. They are protected by tenure, by left wing unions, and by the misplaced respect that generations have had for teachers.

I truly hope you can survive the political correctness of public education once you do your practice teaching. If you manage to survive that by hook and by crook, you may have chance to infiltrate academia.

I did, and have been undermining left wing propaganda to thousands of college students over the last 20+ years.

Great, now you sound like Hillary Clinton in It Takes a Village to Raise a Child

Will you be getting a cut of the proceeds from Hillary's book?

Heavens, we can't have bus drivers telling kids the truth!!!!

Ulysses? I hope it's Homer's not Joyce's :>)

"I would prefer that if know of my kids wants to learn about stem cell research that they consult a book written by someone that has a PHD in the field"

You seem savvy enough to know that just because someone has PhD does not mean that he/she is the fountain of knowledge. Right???

I don't think embryonic stem cell research is an appropriate topic to discuss with elementary school students. I'd have no problem if they were high schoolers, however.

IMO, this isn't a freedom of speech issue, it's a judgement issue.

You must have had a really bad experience in academia if you are sure that most teachers are arrogant and not deserving of any respect.

Oh gimme a break...that is sooo lame and I you know it.

Hillary's "village" bears no resemblance to a society of free independent citizens standing up and speaking up. Hillary and the left wing "progressives" she rules want only their truth to be allowed.

=== Thompson said district officials also accused her of operating an unruly bus,

Yeah, sounds about right ... kids discussing stem cell research and other Factoids.

You give Mrs. Mayor our best. She's a heroine in my book.

Well, only as long as the state is a Christian theocracy...

Yes, Joyce's.

Not everyone that has a PhD or Graduate degree is right on the money but they can frame an argument better than:

"Mel Gibson says that fetal stem-cells have found no cure for disease and by the way kid look out for that SUV when you cross the street."

Just 25 years of college teaching and some adminstration should be enough to know about what's going on in academia and in teacher training...I did that too. I confess that my years of teaching have mostly been in NYS, a state where about 50+% of students who have graduated graduate from high school need to take remedial English and math.

Oh yes, I forgot a theocracy!

Come to think of it when I was a kid my school bus driver told me that theocracies were the best form I government.

Why are you lecturing me about teachers? I am an adult person with children who have been in schools for years. Certainly, I know that teachers do not hold all the knowledge in the universe. Luckily, I also recognize that posters to message boards don't either. Neither does Mel Gibson.

The bus driver does NOT have the Constitutional right to say anything she wishes to other people's children. No matter how fervently held her belief, she cannot do it without risking her job.

Have you ever taught public school, or just in college?

Have you ever had a job in "the real world", or have you always either been a student or teacher?

Have you always lived and worked in a blue state?
