Concern Voiced Over Gonzales' Connections with La Raza
AgapePress ^ | December 2, 2004 | Chad Groening

Posted on 12/02/2004 3:10:03 PM PST by Ed Current

An immigration reform organization is concerned that the man President Bush has tapped to be the next U.S. attorney general has been involved with an organization that opposes the enforcement of immigration laws.

The pro-life community has already expressed its concerns about White House counsel Alberto Gonzales, noting that while a Texas Supreme Court justice he chose not to rule against abortion, in any situation. Now the Washington, DC-based Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is calling Gonzales to task for his reported involvement with the National Council of La Raza, which has endorsed his nomination for attorney general.

FAIR spokeswoman Susan Tully says La Raza unabashedly supports rights for illegal aliens. "When you're talking about the attorney general of the United States, he would be considered the 'top cop' [for the country]," Tully explains. "And if his leanings and bias are sympathetic to illegal alien lawbreakers, that should be a huge concern to those of us who believe in law and order -- and that those laws are there for a reason."

And Tully points out that the phrase "la raza" means "the race" for a reason. "To take it in context, would you be concerned if there a white nominee who had been involved with the Ku Klux Klan or some other white supremacist-type of group?" she asks.

Tully says if a former Klansman had been nominated to the nation's highest law-enforcement position, there would be no end to the media outrage, demanding that such an individual could not possibly be the attorney general. "Yet there is no outrage at all that [Gonzales] has belonged in the past and been involved in that organization [La Raza]," she notes.

In 2001, Gonzales was asked if his own personal feelings about abortion would play a role in his decisions. He responded: "The question is, what is the law, what is the precedent, what is binding in rendering your decision. Sometimes, interpreting a statute, you may have to uphold a statute that you may find personally offensive."

If confirmed as the new AG, Gonzales would have an opportunity to apply that same philosophy to the issue of illegal immigration.

I'm sure glad this is finally out in the open. I've long felt that la Raza is as racist of an organization as the KKK ever was in its heyday with a single exception, that the KKK at least wasn't anti-American. It seems that President Bush has delivered a shot across the anti-illegal alien organizations and the American citizens bow with this nomination - that there is probably no length or depth he will sink to to get his way on his Amnesty lite program. At least some of the current crop of Bushites are starting to see what their chameleon of a President is really about. That he can't be counted on to support those who supported and defended him in his time of need.

Why does this NOT surprise me; these people are picking up right where the Democrats left off smearing a good man.

I agree. His policies are anti-American, however he's got a free pass for 4 years.

True, but only if we American citizens allow him to have it. Become and stay (politically) active.

Attorney Hector Villagra said, 'Individuals are likely to be denied benefits to which they are legally entitled." This denies benefits to illegal immigrants just like Prop 187, an activist judge rolls in there and says, "The people don't know what they're talking about. They don't know what to do. Their vote was stupid."

That hurts my brain. If it doesn't hurt your brain, you should be euthanised as a waste of skin and oxygen.

This can't possibly be the arguement that stalled the bill's implementation...

Maybe judges shouldn't be on Prozac.

The KKK was anti-black American, and anti-Jewish American and anti-Catholic American. But maybe those folks aren't American, to you.

At least some of the current crop of Bushites are starting to see what their chameleon of a President is really about. That he can't be counted on to support those who supported and defended him in his time of need.

What a ridiculous, nonsensical statement. You clowns are echoing the MoveOn.org idiots

You continue to misunderstand Bush's guest worker program, but who the hell cares?

Your ruse allows you to trash Bush, which is what it's all about anyway, right? Any excuse will do.

You and Hadenuf ought to get a room.

No facts, just conjecture. I just quit responding to his rantings.

I started doing that a long time ago myself. I called he/she/it out on other threads and he/she/it just runs and hides for awhile and then slithers back as if nothing had happened and starts in on his/her/its usually unsubstantiated and baseless attacks on those who oppose open borders and advocates public support for illegal aliens. He/she/it in short is just a witless race baiting moron.

They refer to "his reported involvement with" La Raza, but where is the beef? Nothing to bite into here. I don't see it in this article.

We shall see.

Perhaps I missed it, but I can't seem to find on this thread, or in the article, and elucidation of just what Gonzales' ties to La Raza are or were, and when. Odd, this never came up before until now.

And you continue to misunderstand the motivations of the Invader...but who the hell cares?

3 years equals 4 anchor babies...but who the hell cares?

4 anchor babies means social security payments to those kids until they are 18...but who the hell cares?

The producer of the anchor babies are usually allowed to stay...but who the hell cares?

Joe, your hatred of Mexicans is an open secret around here. Every Hispanic thread draws you like a moth to a flame.

Bush can tell you, to your face, what his guest worker program means, and you misrepresent it.

Because, after all, it's about dem Messicans.

There aren't any, except that LaRaza endorsed him.

David Duke endorsed Ronald Reagan in 1980, so that must have made Ronald Reagan a member of the KKK.

See how that works?

I haven't studied LaRaza, but they are associated with MALDEF.
When you start looking at who killed prop. 187, you will find MALDEF, the premier attorney advocacy group for illegal aliens. You will also find their donors are the companies we all purchase from. We are paying for our own destruction. I don’t care what I have to do without, I will not give them any more of my business and I’m letting them know why.
This is a partial list:

Taken from pages 15 and 16 of MALDEF's annual report
[MALDEF's] vision is of an America where being Latino is no longer an obstacle to full participation in society. We imagine an America where all people, including Latinos, enjoy the same rights and protections under the law; where Latino voices are fully heard and represented in the political process; where all people work together to maintain high levels of justice and fairness throughout the American system. Thank you to all of you who have supported MALDEF throughout this year.

Yep, and as I say, I find it amazing that if Gonzales was a La Raza symp, we are just finding out about it now. The code of silence to cover it up this long, must have been very effective, and involved thousands of people. Awesome.

Think so? Bush is so stubborn, insular and arrogant I can see him sticking with his anti-American agenda come hell or high water until a wave of national disgust in the land washes him out of power. America cannot withstand another 4 years of mass invasion and staggering budget and trade deficits without our security, prosperity and sovereignty being greatly harmed. If a lot of people arrive at this conclusion........

Good post. It's already happening.

I read a post the other day, the poster asked someone if he felt this titanic invasion and those that aid and abet it would be the big issue in 08.

LOL! Got some real cutting edge politicos here. I told him it should have been *the* issue years ago, and the two beltway parties have parked themselves in the red zone over this. By 2008 we'll probably have 30 million illegal aliens in country. By then, the mood of the rest of America will be as angry as those in the southwest.

It wont be pretty.
