At last, a smidgeon of integrity. The Democrats probably don't have enough money for a statewide recount, and we'll find that out officially tomorrow.

Wow, a principled stand by a Democrat.

Is the $700,000 the cost of the partial recount, or the whole state?

If there is no re-count, does Gregoire get to keep Kerry's $250,000?

Surprising! Still seems a waste of time and money, but at least its far more honourable than selected recounts.

Ahem...how about counting all LEGAL votes in the state.

Boy, Kerry's a cheapskake. He has a couple million in the bank and all he's going to kick in is a measly $250 thou? Sheesh.

The John Kerry campaign donated $250,000 toward the Washington recount.

...and offered to windsurf Puget Sound as a means of providing publicity.

BTW, that's $250,000 that the Kerry campaign DIDN'T spend in Ohio.

I just heard yesterday evening that she and her party were just going to recount King County, her stronghold. And that's just plain wrong.

With only a 42 vote margin, I would think a recount is appropriate.

“The John Kerry campaign donated $250,000 toward the Washington recount.”

I knew he was a cheap f__ker but 'fer crissakes... the guy's got 17M leftover from the campaign!

Gregoire really sounds desperate in her pleadings. With only 42 votes separating them, 2 or 3 million in the right pockets could easily turn this thing around!

I thought I had read that a candidate could request a partial recount (at their expense), and that if it produced enough of a change to alter the outcome, the law required the entire state to be recounted at taxpayer expense. Either that isn't true, or this is a strange stand for Gregoire to be taking.

All this means is that they have then money, they have the votes manufactured, and they know there will be a state wide recount no matter what. Why not spend someone elses money to buy a little credibility.

or just a ploy....frankly, I don't trust anything that they do....

or maybe she knows that she has no chance whatsoever, so why not act like she's on the high road...

she could be setting herself up as a principled Demonrat , just to have her party "insist" on doing only Kink county....that way, she'll look good either way.....

Integrity? Or just a realization that if everyone's counting then there will be many fewer watchers in King County?

Gregoire is going back into court to gain access to more spoiled ballots. Perkins-Coie is petitioning this afternoon. Probably with the same judge who bent over backwards for them last week.

All county GOP party's will be needing 25 or so volunteers that will be able to observe for a 12 hour shift. Can you imagine the mistakes that will occur because of fatigue?
