MY CHRISTMAS CRUSADE

By Michelle Malkin   ·   December 02, 2004 02:36 AM
The persecution never ends. Denver has launched war against a church group that wanted to march in the city's Christmas parade "Parade of Lights." (I hate, hate, hate that p.c. euphemism.)

From the Denver Post: Parade Organizers Say Christmas Carols May Be Offensive To Others

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper recently announced that next year the phrase "Merry Christmas" will be removed from the city building and replaced with "Happy Holidays."

And now a church group who wants to march in the Parade of Lights and sing Christmas carols will not be allowed to participate in the parade. Organizers say the parade is about the holidays, not Christmas, but leaders of the Faith Bible Chapel say that's ridiculous.

"We can't pretend that Christ didn't exist and Christmas wasn't about his birthday, so we felt we could sing it and apparently that is not in social vogue anymore," said Pastor Gary Beasley, with the Faith Bible Chapel.

"This event is not one that has ever intended to have a religious message or a political message," said Susan Rogers, with the Downtown Denver Partnership.

She said no overtly religious symbols is allowed in the parade and that means participants can't carry "Merry Christmas" signs and can't sing traditional Christmas hymns.

I am hereby launching the Lump of Coal campaign. Later today, I will box up a lump of charcoal, mark the package "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" and send it to the Denver Mayor in protest of his idiotic policy. Please join me in doing the same (and if you take a photo of your creatively designed package, I will link/post).

Send to:

Mayor John W. Hickenlooper
Denver City and County Building
1437 Bannock Street, Suite 350
Denver, CO 80202

Use charcoal or paint a small rock black - just do it and wish the Mayor a Merry Christmas!

Trouble with that is "Santa" is just the same spirit as that which Michelle is protesting -- i.e. a way to avoid mentioning the J-word.

Any time you want to take the opportunity to remember Jesus' birth or resurrection, you can. Try saying "Merry Christmas" to every stranger you meet, especially retailer. Every day. All year.

I have to tell you this funny story...there must've been a freeper at the Gap the other day. I was standing in the checkout line and the guy ahead of me in the other checkout line must've wished every clerk and every person on his way out of the store "Merry Christmas". Startled customers and clerks had nowhere to go but to reply "and Merry Christmas to you too!".

Boycott is one idea; that is defensive. We need to go on offense more. We are to "Go into all the world..." Get creative! Proclaim Christ at Christmas time in every way that comes to mind, rather than just reacting to those who would cleanse our society from Christ. We have our private property to display on, we can send nativity cards, say Merry Christmas, sing carols on the street corner and on the streets of our neighborhood, give invitations to church services that will honor Christ, invite people into our houses where Christmas is about Jesus...I'm sure there's lots of other ideas. The people I know who own storefronts with big front windows display the nativity- and are seen by people in public even towns where the city will not allow it in public prop, etc. Get creative!

I agree. I've been to Singapore (1998) and was shocked at how beautifully the main areas were decorated for the Christmas Holidays. I even remember there was one large dept store that even had bible verses of the Christmas story displayed on the building and inside. I was told that the owner had become a Christen. Singapore was very beautiful and everyone was very nice. Even in Hong Kong in the malls every one was decorated for Christmas.

There is nothing wrong in celebrating the different holidays but that does not mean that anyone should exclude Christmas.

Suggested Strategy:

1. Be sure to send it Return Receipt Requested and mark the box that requires identifying the person signing for it (this will be a mail clerk or somebody other than the Mayor).

2. Once armed with this information when you get your postcard back, post all the contact information here so we can FReep that person--NICELY, since they may even be one of us and loathe the Mayor's dictum...we want to start a palace revolution in Denver City Hall and let's start recruiting with collecting names and identifying friends and foes, THEN we start kicking Democra$$es. Again, we gotta be kind to the people being used by the mayor and turn them AGAINST him.

3. A charcoal bricquet would be fine, it's just a couple of ounces. Return Receipt is maybe $2.00 besides the buck for postage. If someone has to actually sign for it it will prevent them from just tossing them casually into their trash. Five bucks max to start a revolution!

Attagirl, Michelle Malkin!

Someone ought to just organize a "Christmas Parade" separate from the "Parade of Lights". Denver would quickly see which one is the most popular.

great post! HOWEVER--do NOT post all your information, including home address, etc., this just begs for reverse-Freeping by the Leftists in the gummit who might just happen to leak your info to DUmmies.... You need to provide a valid phone number at least...anonymous calls and mail is widely disregarded by all in public office (except by the FBI and Secret Service)...

It has become a tradition in both Singapore and Hong Kong to go all out with their Christmas decorations.

It's interesting that in Singapore they sometimes invite members of the Christian faith (after all they're the experts) to explain their holiday to the public. That way, everyone can respect and learn from each other.

It stills baffles me that in the U.S. you can't even say "Merry Christmas" in some instances without getting censured. Whatever happened to freedom of religion? I thought the U.S. invented it.

We should make it clear to all -- you want to live in America, be willing to work and accept our (red-state) ethics. If you don't, then Canada or Mexico beckons -- vamos muchachos y muchachas

So are you implying that this is being caused by immigrants or illegal aliens? Who is it exactly that is being offended?
