OS 10.3.6
Me ^ | 12/01/2004 | Me

Posted on 12/01/2004 11:55:27 PM PST by Bobibutu

I have experienced a slowdown after 10.3.6 - tearing my hair out not wanting to revert to 10.3.5.

OnyX - ran it many times - no joy. Finally got a tip to run it in a different mode.

About OnyX...

• OnyX is a maintenance and optimization tool for Mac OS X. It provides access to some hidden features of the Finder, Dock, and Safari, shows the different logs, allows removal of certain files and folders that may grow cumbersome and more...

• OnyX is Freeware, gratis and freely usable; you may copy and distribute it at will. You can use it for as long a time as you want. You will find the latest version at my Web site: http://www.titanium.free.fr.

• If you encounter a bug or anomaly, misspelling, bad translation or if you have suggestions for enhancements to OnyX, please send mail to: joel.barriere@free.fr.

• This application is distributed "as-is" and without warranty. I am not in any way responsible for software or hardware damage that may result from its use.

Note: As a precaution, delete any old version of OnyX previously installed.

• OnyX was created using Apple Developer Tools (Cocoa - AppleScript Studio) on a PowerBook G4 Titanium 550 MHz with Mac OS X (version 10.3.5).

• Localization: - Joël Barrière (French) - David C Lawhon (English) - Massimo Pescia (Italian) - Nobuhiro Koike (Japanese) - Dirk Petersen (German) - A. Manuel García (Spanish) - Özgür Albayrak (Turkish) - Ben Van Houtte (Dutch) - Benedek Szabó (Hungarian) - Rasmus Berggrén "Rajje" (Suédois) http://hem.passagen.se/rabermacprojekt

• Icons: Dirk Petersen

• Acknowledgments : All those who have helped and encouraged me during the development of OnyX. Thanks to Apple (of course...), MacUpdate, MacBidouille, AvosMac, Macworld, Mac People, FrTracker, VersionTracker, Gete.Net, Mac OS X Hints, File Avenue, ChezMark, MacTechNews... and the others.

Run it in "Automation" - it takes a while - what joy - the TI runs fast again. I was running it in "Maint"

You could always get a PC with WindowsXP...

(someone was going to say it - thought I'd be first)

I've got a couple of old NeXTStations lying around. Same OS, same IDE. Real cheap.

Or, you could, as I do, happily run your G5 MAC under OSX 10.3.6 with no hairpulling, stress, sweat, slowdowns, interruptions, viruses, bad breath, dandruff, virus invasions, worms, bugs, spyware, unwanted home page switcheroos, or damp socks.

It's a wonderful world!

Not quite.

The only part I'll credit you with is the "real cheap" comment. If you can get Mac OSX 10.3.6 to run on one of your old NeXT machines, I'll buy you a beer; in fact I'll give you the run of the bar. The fact is you can't and that's why they're "real cheap" as you put it.

Sorry...had to be a smart aleck. I can't help except to say to go to Google, look for Mac forums, and then post with your problem there in addition to here on FR.

The more people, the merrier.

BTW - even with the slowdown - my Mac still kicks the butt of my PC running XL on the same DSL line (via router).

Did you write Onyx, or are you re-posting something from another website? I'm a Mac users, and it'd be cool if the author of Onyx (which I already have installed on my Powerbook) were a Freeper....

Regardless, thanks for the heads-up!

OK - I will respond to this one.

I am a former IBM Field Engineer. 224795 is my IBM number.

Cut my teeth on ATR - do you even know what that is?

Hint: Pre Internet.

You kids may have talent but you don't know the basics.

BTW 224795 is a very low number - check it out and then give me your stuff.

For Mac OS X utilities, I find The Moose's Apprentice and The Little Dutch Moose rather good.
