"However, wearing shorts, thongs or vulgar t-shirts will not get you in the door. "
What if you have a note from your podiatrist stating your need to wear thongs?

I'm TDY on the East Coast this time. I can afford it. I've got my dress blues with me (gotta sew on new stripes, haven't worn them in a while). I've almost talked myself into going.

No black tie for me. I'll wear a business suit with my cool "Guernica" tie.

Just got my ticket. Anybody need a date? My husband is a Democrat and I dragged him to the first Bush ball, but he won't come to this one.

Have fun all! Wish I could attend but since I'm in Atlanta it would be a bit out of the way.
FYI:
I just happened to have come back from Thanksgiving weekend in D.C. Great city. I was stunned to find out that the Smithsonian museums were free.
I stayed at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel (A Loews Hotel). It is very old, affordable and a block from the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. We paid $125 a night which included valet parking ($22 per day) and breakfast. Not a bad deal.
