Tests show Fallujah body was not Margaret Hassan
Sydney Morning Herald ^ | December 2, 2004 - 1:00AM

Dental records have shown a mutilated body discovered in the besieged Iraqi city of Fallujah was not kidnapped Irish-born CARE Australia worker Margaret Hassan.

The findings cast doubts over the fate of the 59-year-old head of CARE International's work in Iraq, a position funded by CARE Australia, who was kidnapped by insurgents on her way to work on October 19.

No group admitted holding Mrs Hassan and no contact was made with her kidnappers, but a grainy video received by al-Jazeera television in mid-November showed a blindfolded woman in an orange suit being shot.

US marines found the body of a woman in in her fifties with her limbs severed and her throat cut two weeks ago.

Mrs Hassan's husband Tahseen Ali Hassan told British newspaper The Times he did not know if she was dead or alive.

"In my mind she is still alive," Mr Hassan told the newspaper, which reported the findings of the dental tests today, quoting British sources in Baghdad.

"Maybe I'm wrong, but I was with Margaret for 33 years. I cannot believe she has been abducted and killed."

Care Australia confirmed the results were accurate, The Australian newspaper reported.

No idea.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that the terrorists killed Hassan and put her remains in a bombed out building so that they can claim the US killed her during our assault on Fallujah.

And the press will eat it up, too.

I put NOTHING past the terrorists and / or liberals.

The fact that they released a videotape which they claim shows her being executed contradicts your theory.

I wonder who the hell this woman is? And where is Hassan?

....Understanding and negotiation....

Yes, certainly no reason for any outrage.

And where's our media on this? I suppose if this is just breaking they are reviewing and checking it out.

"I cannot believe she has been abducted and killed."

Maybe he cannot believe she has been killed; but he surely knows she was abducted.

I think the group that did this realized by public sentiment - and by the fast denials of other terror leaders - that this abduction was a mistake.

Think Margaret is dead; and they do not want to claim responsibility.

Surely, she will not show up in Ireland. . .but I guess, stranger things have happened. I do wish her the benefit of my doubts.

Something fishy about this. Like the 2 French journalists who were kidnapped and are now reported to be moving freely with their 'captors'.

I hate to be cynical, but I can't help myself.

I obviously don't know Margaret Hassan, but there are people who do her sort of work that might be deluded into believing some sort of staged incident would help her cause.

From that quote, I don't know that her husband's wild speculation is too far from my own.

I forgot about that. Good point.

So we have one confirmed murdered woman who is unknown and another known woman who was allegedly murdered on tape but who's remains have not been found.

What exactly is the rationale for trying to figure out why terrorists do what they do again? When will we really get serious and start killing these people in large numbers?

And you're very wise not to. Right now our homegrown commie media is focusing on the rap music, sexual overtones and cold temps being thrown at the Guantanamo terrorists. To them hacked off arms and legs and disembowelment does not compare.

You’re supposed to do that if you want to look “worldly and sophisticated”, like the Europeans.

When will we really get serious and start killing these people in large numbers?

That obvious solution is just too “American” for cultured tastes.

Who is the poor woman?

Could be someone's daughter who disappeared on vacation to Istanbul many years ago. There are credible stories of blondes from the West who go off to visit quaint Muslim countries and disappear to end up in some desert harem.

Just wanted to give an update and say that MSNBC did just report this story. They added that although the body of this woman was not Hassan, British officials do believe Hassan is dead based on the video of the woman being shot.

Thank God for that, but God's Blessing on whoever that poor woman was! I hope there is word on Margaret Hassan soon.
