Matt from Windsor is bang on with his comments. It is all true. And he's only told you the tip of the iceberg.

I'm not sure I know what your post means. By the way, what do you do in the world of 'concrete is my business'?

Take a peek at the Forbes "Tax Misery Index"

I took a peek and I don't believe it.

It has Canada and USA at almost the same level, which is false.

In particular, it lists Canadian VAT as 7%, which is wrong.

The Canadian VAT is 15%, as Rush's caller indicated.

Furthermore, there are MANY hidden taxes on many products, that Forbes does not mention.

My suspicion is that REAL taxes in Canada are about the same as those in Norway.

Believe it or not, there are one or two conservatives in Toronto.

As a matter of fact, a proud reactionary, I consider myself to the right of most of the Americans who post on FR.

Congratulations, again there are stil conservatives living in some of the most left-leaning areas in the Western world. Melbourne has a dozen of conservative MPs elected and a lot of Australian FRers live in Melbourne, and New York and Boston do have their share of FRers as well.

Unfortunately, too many Canadians still regard the currently very left-leaning Toronto as somewhat "politically and socially conservative" (no kidding, I read this from the tour guides like Lonely PLanet). If this is considered "centre-right" then I think a number of them must be quite kooky.
