It's time for U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan to resign. Over the past seven months, the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which I chair, has conducted an exhaustive, bipartisan investigation into the scandal surrounding the U.N. Oil-for-Food program. That noble program was established by the U.N. to ease the suffering of the Iraqi people, then languishing under Saddam Hussein's ironfisted rule, as well as the economic sanctions imposed on Iraq by the U.N. after the first Gulf War. While sanctions were designed to instigate the removal of Saddam from power, or at least render him impotent, the Oil-for-Food program was designed to support the Iraqi people with food and other humanitarian aid under the watchful eye of the U.N.

In addition, a scandal of this magnitude requires a truly independent examination to ensure complete transparency, and to restore the credibility of the U.N.Humor - the best medicine.

Thanks for the update. It's truly remarkable how quickly freepers nail things.

From what I can tell, only the Wall Street Journal and Fox News has given this any investigation coverage
The other news sources may have made a blurb of a mention .. but not enough to get any notice
This is a HUGE scandal at the UN .. one that they may never recover from and the MSM pretty much ignores it

...to be replaced by whom?
Another third world bureaucrat who cut his teeth stealing foreign aid money from the United States?

It's still about the anti-Bush sentiment. And probably will be for the next four years. The MSM will just fade into oblivion one can only hope. And take their liberal ignorance with them.

I read this article and one point stuck out to me more than the others. Our troops were put in harm's way to oust Saddam Hussein because of the corruption in the Oil for Food program. If Annan and the UN had done what they were supposed to do, Saddam might have toppled years ago. Can we say pay offs? Corruption?
Wonder what the families of the soldiers think about this?

Tony Snow is thinking Colin Powell should take Annans place.
I think that the only way that an American would be "allowed" to be head of UN would be if we threatened to pull all of our money and kicked them out of New York.
