As a student at Tennessee State University, I can say that I was told by professor, that "right wing talk show hosts" were just spewing "propaganda". He also said that if you beleived that minimum wage may not be a good idea you would "have to be stupid".
What you can do is make sure you read some good books written by top notch conservatives in any class where you may be having a problem. I have friends who decided to take the debating route. Some paid for it with an unjustly lowered grade, but if you read the right things you can do just fine.
The minimum wage simply states that it's illegal to hire at less.
If all low paying jobs are illegal, then only illegals will have low paying jobs ... illegal aliens I believe they're called.
The real solution to illegal immigration is to sharply reduce the premium that it costs to hire legally. It's not that there are jobs Americans are unwilling to do. It's that there are jobs that it's illegal for us to do, at a wage and compensation that's profitable for the employer.
The total cost for an unskilled legal employee now might be 7 to 9 dollars per hour, whereas it might be 2 to 4 dollars for an illegal. That's too big a difference for profitable employers to ignore.
Mandatory safety net social programs, medicine, education, transportion, and such further aggravate the problem, reducing the profits of the successful, while minimizing the disadvantages to the illegal. Essentially, the employer gets to shift some of their payroll costs to the public trough.
Then Political Correctness white washes the whole damn mess, inhibiting our ability to speak openly and honestly in public about what is happening.
'I nearly beat the crap out of a history professor at UNC in 1979 when he stated that we brought the hostage crisis in Iran on ourselves. Another student had to physically stop me.'
Ah, but we DID bring it upon ourselves, just as we allowed the atmosphere that enabled 9/11 to happen...and the USS Cole, and the Kobar Towers, etc..
by refusing to see what the malignant growth of manical and unbound religious zealotry would bring to the world, we in fact, allowed the crisis in 1979, the first WTC, etc...we were too busy singing that Coca-Cola song, "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, in Perfect Harmony..."

it took some tough guys from outside the 'perfect world view', Reagan, Bush41, Bush43, to do the dirty work, YANK open the curtains, rattle the chains, and go after the barbarians.

Since you are a student, you are in the "trenches," so to speak, and a complaint from you carries far more weight than from those of us not in the situation. These people understand only money, and it's the only way to get their attention.
I feel ya. I had a history prof in college that took the stance it was "an undisputed fact the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both unneccessary and morally wrong."
In fairness, almost all of my college profs were very fair-minded, whatever their personal views. But Tokyo Rose (as I nicknamed this particular prof), had no problem substituting genuine scholarship with her own radical opinions on every topic you could imagine.
I would love to matriculate to college again. Having gone thru 3 degrees and more and buisness I have long since disposed of being intimidated by academic types. They have no idea what makes the world go around. I would like to sign up in the most leftist, marxist, liberals classroom just to ask questions and prick him. Hell, most people on Free Republic have a better understanding of life issues than these postholediggers (PHDs). I believe most freepers could discombobulate these pricks the first day. The youngsters who need to graduate are naturally intimidated. I was back then. But now, it would be joyful to ram it down their craw. But I am not bitter.
I don't agree. People are not forced to work for a wage lower than they agree to work for.
This is not to say that people don't often work at a wage less than they are worth. As a matter of fact, almost everyone works for their *next* wage level, not their current wage level. It is simply a practical matter that people tend to be paid based on past performance rather than future performance.
Those of us that are at fairly mature positions in career life can probably all say, with little exception, that we've all worked hardest in the early parts of our careers at a time when we were earning comparatively little. That's how we got to where we are now.
This is not to say that senior level people in organizations don't work hard and put in many unrequited hours... we do... but in my own life I put in many more unpaid hours early in my career in order to set up the career path I've had.
But one thing that has been difficult to get across to some of my employees is that you never really make any real money until you cross the boundary from being an hourly to a salaried employee. Sure, you may not be exactly compensated for every single hour you put in, but you're going to find a ceiling in what people are willing to pay on an hourly basis compared to what you can earn on a salaried basis.
He's in Nashville....David Lipscomb is only about 8 miles from TSU.
He is proof that there is an exception to every rule.
I do believe that both Jews and Arabs are Semitic. What I mean by this is that they are very close racially. If one group is "European looking," then they both are. Now, I am just a an autodidact, so feel free to tell me where I am going wrong.

FReepmail it to me.
I will of course get confirmation by additional sources before I hang him out to dry!
I'm in my earky 50s and returned to college in the last few years for a Masters..You CANNOT believe what these MORON professors are pushing on campus...As bad as you think it is , it's worse.Needless to say I was the black sheep in every class I attended. They though i was NUTS supporting BUSH and a conservative point of view. I mean people got REAL NASTY me all the time.Marxist are the norm .Most professors I had were also not very well educated , especially in history and geography. I tore many a new butt hole on quite a few issues .
The "professor" does not understand basic economics. There is a simple economic calculus called: Supply & Demand. If the school cut his pay by x%, he might want to move to another school. Gee, I wonder why he might not ponder that choice. This guy is a jack-ass. Must be a tenure thing.

I know what you mean... though my experience was somewhat different. Some years ago I went to grad school at Seattle University in the MBA program. Seattle U. is a private college still within the Jesuit tradition, and as such hadn't completely rolled over to the liberal element, at least not back then.
What I've heard from there lately, however, has not been completely encouraging.
Heck, I didn't even know I was in a blog. Out of the fingers of newbies.
