In a rivalry that is 121st old, students at Yale Uiversity successfully pulled off the most impressive prank in the history of rival pranks.
The students faked being members of the "Harvard Pep Squad," passing out pieces of paper to the Harvard side of the stadium.
These Harvard fans were told that the pieces of paper would join together to spell "GO HARVARD." Little did they know, when held up at just the right moment, the pieces actually spelled "WE SUCK."
While this was not an original idea, it was still a great feat in and of itself. The prank was reminiscent of the Great Rose Bowl Hoax on January 2, 1961.
Thanks, interesting read.
My favorite Rice band story was the Aggie game when they came out to honor Reveille, the A&M dog mascot in a fire hydrant formation.
A group of Aggie Corpsmen drew their sabres and went after several band members in the end zone. Last time the Corps were allowed to bring their weapons to a game!
If y'all want me to explain what an Aggie Corpsman is...uh, never mind.
I was present when the MIT Engineering frat activated a concealed weather-balloon and compressor under the turf at midfield at Soldiers' Field, and set it off in the middle of the Harvard-Yale game. The result is pictured below:
Now that was a hack.
Look into the Harvey Mudd / Caltech Cannon Incident!
Two great engineering schools in the same region leads to some creative rivalry!
Well, since this is the beginning of the 21st century, it qualifies as the best prank (so far) of the century
I love the Gnome infestation! You gotta admit, for computer weenies, they do have a sense of humor.
Is there a URL for a larger version of that pic?
I hate that expression.
What in the world is that???
Good grief, it's GRASS! Illuminated with natural light!
It's all we had, back in the Stone Age.
Oh good grief, that's funny!!
Can we get a bunch of Al Queida prisoners to hold up a sign that says Mohammad Sucks???
Well, how classy.
I had never heard about that. That is WAY too funny.
Who spelled it for them?
Thanks for that.
Reminds me of one of the great college football pranks, unfortunately perpetrated on my Clemson Tigers.
The South Carolina Sigma Nu frat dressed in some high school uniforms which were identical to Clemson's. The phony Tigers ran onto the field pre-game and began to do warm-ups. The Tiger Band begins playing Tiger Rag, the Clemson fans cheer.
It soon dawned on them though that something was amiss. The fake Tiger receivers were running into each other on pass routes. Others were pretending to milk cows (a Moo U. reference.) The punter was kicking the ball straight up.
A near riot ensued until the phony Tigers were removed from the field.
Those coots don't get much right, but this one was funny as hell.
