Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Monday his country would press on with its nuclear programme and was not afraid of pressure from the United States.
"The people and the officials are not scared of the political threats made by the powers in the service of oppression," Khamenei was quoted as saying by state television during a meeting with visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
"Iran will never stop its nuclear programme, that is our red line," he said in comments that coincided with Iran's agreement to suspend, but not halt, its controversial work on the nuclear fuel cycle.
Khamenei, who has the final say on all matters of state, said the suspension agreement with Britain, France and Germany -- designed to prevent the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from referring Iran to the UN Security Council -- "were carried out while respecting this red line".

Oh, boy. The "They will hate us" argument... again.

Big duh!
Like the Iranians have any intent to change their course on WMD.
The Europeans who still think they're not in a war against the radical Islamic fundamentalist:
Munich Oktoberfest bombing
Madrid train bombing
Van Gogh assassination
Just in the recent history will all just be overlooked. The Germans are led by Clinton, I mean Schroeder. They will make BIG MEDIA EVENTS OF THEIR APPEASEMENT EFFORTS, to show how they did something and made progress.
They will not talk about:
2 planes suicide crashed
1 car bomb
300+ children dead in Beslan
In just Russia in just a 6 month period. There IS NO GLOBAL WAR on terror and there is NO threat from the Islamic fundamentalist nor are there connections. These are all made up ideas in George Bushes mind. The hegemony and imperialistic Americans are looking for an excuse to gain access to oil. No mention will be made of:
MEK compounds in Iraq
Al Zarkari who lived in Iraq before the war
The master mind of the Achille Laura hijacking living freely in Baghdad under Saddam.
The IIS plot to assassinate George H. Bush in 1993 (State sponsored assassination plot).
The politics of Chamberlain are alive and kicking in Europe. If we close our eyes and just wait the problem will go away. People want to see something done about this, so the Europeans wine and dine those who would much like to see them bleed to death right at their feet. But all that matters is that the Iranians show some cooperation and the Europeans who are to weak to act or call a spade a spade will quickly seize the moment and demonstrate that something was accomplished. Its a win-win situation for a short time. The Europeans can tell their people they did something without actually drawing the conclusion which should be drawn, since theyre impotent. The Iranians know that as long as they throw the Europeans a bone they will never back any action of the US against them. The Europeans themselves will surly do nothing. All awhile the Iranians keep building a bomb. Because every kid knows this is nothing but media eyewash what the Iranians are feeding the audience. The big though European politician will also not mention Hamas which was created and is still sponsored by Iran. No, again this would force the hand into the politically incorrect action for the contemporary savvy European politician.
How hard is it for Iran to dismantle their program? How hard is it to stop the construction? How long has this game been going on?
An Arab/Persian sees negotiations as a sign of weakness. Sadr/Saddam only negotiates to buy time, escape or do other things. Never is it sincere. The Palestinians are the same. The Europeans dont care and just want to hear a big lie, even if at the highest levels they know dam well its a lie, it serves their political end and wins elections.
Iran has no intent to stop, but they know the Europeans. They know that their vote matters.

I hope you are right, Ken.
Can Israel effectively "threaten" Iran without actually detonating a device within Iran? Perhaps by naming targets, this would inspire the Iranian populus, especially in the forementioned areas, to act to overthrow the Mullahs and stop the nuclear program.

"only an ignorant fool would blame a entire religion for stupidity of a few within that religion"
Hello Troll. Only a blissfully stupid moron such as yourself actually believes the "it's only a few" storyline. The Muslims extremists has done a number on your ignorant head, that's for sure.
The strength of the opposition is really the key issue..DRZin's daily Iranian thread suggests it is a lot stronger..One scenario is that you have revolts breaking out around the country..an opposition govt is annouced..the mullahs attempt to put it down..and then the new leaders appeal to the US for military intervention.. I think the whole Iranian question is on a very tight timetable that no one eally understands. I believe that there are only TWO absolutes at work here. ONE is that the mullahs are dteremi9ned to get a nuclear weapon, and TWO. Israel will under no circumstances allow that to happen..regardless of what the rest of the world, including the US says, or does..
Europe is willing to tolerate a nuclear Iran, because with the exception of Russia, they have very little oil and they want Iran's.
Israel's problem, of sorts, in an "overt" threat is that it has never admitted to possessing nukes. However, I don't think the problem of Iran's disperesed facilities is as hard as it sounds. You don't have to take them all out..just a few..even the sources of power..the electrical plants..then..you try and foment, aid, abet.. a revolution from within..
I believe that you are correct in both of your assumptions. I can remember when I was in Esfahan (during the revolution of the Shah), spontaneous demonstrations would occur. The Shah's Army would scatter them, similar to what has happened a few weeks ago with the student demonstrations. In my belief, the students and other supporters are not strong enough at this time to overthrow the Mullahs or the Revolutionary Guards. Only time will tell which way the situation will go.

Thanks for the post. These are just the kind of Islamothugs that the opposition would face.
This guy's house should be first on the target list.
want to start a little pool on how long the newbie remains?
It's also time for Allah to die.
Charles Krauthammer said a good six weeks ago that Iran was a problem that wouldn't wait until January. He was right, and the clock is ticking.

Listen Troll enough of your liberal garbage argument. If the Iranina people are righteous than they will understand our need to defend ourselves from Radical Mullahs with Nukes. The safety of the American People comes first.
This is the same argument you fools gave with the Iraq War!
I agree. It's the regime that are the extremists, not the people.
Bombing Iran would probably turn the Pro-American Iranians against us.
I think we're going to run this risk with a blockade of the Gulf, too. The average Iranian will feel the hardship, not the regime.
We need to finance and support regime change. The nukes aren't the problem, the people in charge are.
No, they don't seem strong enough now. They need help.
Why were you in Isfahan? Working?
