BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A mosque raided by security forces in southern Baghdad contained a workshop to rig suicide car bombs, with seven vehicles ready for terror attacks, an Iraqi Defense Ministry official said Sunday.
National Guard forces raided the Sunni Muslim Al-Yassen Mosque in the Baghdad area of Abu Dshir on Saturday, said Gen. Saleh Sarhan. In addition to the seven cars, guardsmen found 30 rocket-propelled grenades, high-powered rifles, mortars and remote control detonators, Sarhan said.
He said the mosque leader and 18 other people were detained.
Anti-U.S. guerrillas used about 60 mosques in Fallujah, west of Baghdad, to stockpile weapons and provide cover during a U.S.-led offensive in the city earlier this month, the U.S. military said. One of the mosques was described as a general arms depot capable of equipping guerrillas across much of Iraq.

big surprise.....
I'll be watching for THIS item in the al Jazeera Daily News!
I bet they were all SUVs.
This incident (and others) should allow coalition and Iraqi forces to inspect Mosques.
Every single mosque in Fallujah was an ammo dump and terrorist camp. Nobody should be even slightly surprised.
For safety's sake, detonate on-site.
We are onto the mosque hiding weapons thing. Look for a lot more of these type raids.

Would the Muslims stoop to this? Defiling a holy site?
Since jihad is a religious obligation, it is valid to stage jihad from a mosque. However, the presence of infidels desecrates a mosque. A fatwa is here issued enjoining all Muslims to fight to keep infidels out of mosques.
And have been since at least Desert Storm.
I'm sure this is just a big misunderstanding. Many places of worship have buses and vans to pick up those worshippers not able to come down to ye olde mosque or church. :-p
Are the mosques big compounds that are walled?
I say we rig these seven cars for remote detonation, park them outside the seven most radical mosques in Baghdad, and light 'em all up simultaneously!
---He said the mosque leader and 18 other people were detained.---
I would suggest public execution. There is nothing to be gained beyond a period of questioning, from keeping these people to release another day and much to be gained from an immediate and harsh example.
Somehow I doubt the average Baghdaddie will care if all their mosques are raided to prevent future car bombings. The Iraqi police, in particular, will be grateful because they've been the target of so many car bombings.
No telling what's going on in the mosques in the U.S.
