Buffalo Author Slams Bass Pro Deal
SPEAKUP WNY ^ | Nov 28, 2004 | James Ostrowski

Posted on 11/28/2004 3:32:11 PM PST by eleni121

Buffalo, New York. November 28, 2004. Buffalo attorney and author, James Ostrowski, will hold a press conference Monday, November 29, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in front of Memorial Auditorium to release his 2000-word critique of the Bass Pro deal, entitled “Bass Pros at Corporate Welfare.” Ostrowski is an adjunct scholar at the Ludwig von Mises Institute and a columnist for one of the most popular economics sites in the world, Mises.org.

Ostrowski will also announce his plans to form Buffalo’s first independent think tank—Free Buffalo. Free Buffalo will attempt to reverse the top-down, top-heavy political model that has devastated this once great city and replace it with a highly decentralized system that returns power to the people and to communities and neighborhoods, and is based on a free market economy.

The topic on all the talk shows tomorrow will be the multi million dollar giveaway to Bass Pro to open a flagship store in downtown Buffalo, NY in the old Aud.

So where do WNY Freepers stand on our tax money being used to prop up downtown Buffalo?

From Springfield, MO, home of Bass Pro..Johnnie Morris and Bass Pro are first class citizens and certainly give back to the community more than any other corporate entity..the problem with Buffalo is keeping snow shovels in stock...

Let Buffalo prop up Buffalo. And as a life B.A.S.S. member, I want to know: why are we putting a Bass Pro Shop in Buffalo?!? Well, OK, ya got Lake Erie.

So illegal immigrants can have the gear to fish in the sewage treatment ponds. Not kidding. We have had a problem with such in my area.

We here in Columbia, MO have a Bass Pro Shop opening up soon. These Shops bring big $$. Ummm...Buffalo doesn't need the $$, especially downtown?

Many master baiters will shop there so there could be some benefit to someone.

As a Missouri resident, I have to say that if New Yorkers are gullible enough to pay me, I'm happy to pick up the money.

Lake Erie of course and lots of other smaller lakes/ponds in the region including the Finger Lakes and streams and rivers.

Basically lots of water!

I've been following this story pretty closely from just across the border since I regularly tune in WBEN-am in Buffalo to listen to Rush and other conservative commentators.
(To those of us in Kanuckistan, WBEN's like "Radio Free America"!)

Given that the Buffalo / Erie County area is for all practical purposes bankrupt - thanks to years of 'rat mismanagement - and currently considering cutting even essential services, this blatant corporate welfare move is total fiscal insanity.
Plus, the deal absolutely reeks of kick-backs and will draw little business to the area since there are already Bass Pro's in both Toronto and Auburn NY.

One wonders if the brain trust of Canada's Liberal Party is now moonlighting cross-border as financial consultants?

"As a Missouri resident, I have to say that if New Yorkers are gullible enough to pay me, I'm happy to pick up the money"

Nothing personal but that seems to be a problem with New York: taxpayer money being given to anyone lazy enough left enough foreign enough and rich enough to access it through the most corrupt legislative body in the nation: the NYS Legislature
