Gay issues slowly erode Episcopal membership
Washington Times ^ | 11/27/04 | Julia Duin

Episcopalians aren't making a mass exodus from their church, but dioceses across the country are doing a slow bleed as members realize that a much-anticipated report released six weeks ago has no teeth and that the denomination's ordination of a homosexual bishop will go unpunished.
The Windsor Report, which sought to resolve the Anglican Communion's crisis over authority and homosexuality, criticizes same-sex blessings in U.S. and Canadian churches and the ordination last year of Bishop V. Gene Robinson.

But the report also reprimands Third World bishops who have crossed diocesean lines to help marooned conservative parishes.
Within a few days of the report's release Oct. 18 in London, two Episcopal parishes in Washington state joined the Anglican Diocese of Recife, Brazil.
Other Episcopalians have departed for the Anglican Mission in America, a breakaway group allied with the Anglican bishop of Rwanda. This makes it part of the 70 million-member worldwide Anglican Communion, bypassing the communion's U.S. affiliate, the 2.3 million-member Episcopal Church.

[snip]

AMIA spokesman Jay Greener says Episcopalians seem to be "in shock."

"There was an expectation there'd be more in that report," Mr. Greener said. "People are saying they can't take it anymore."

Plus "gay" members don't reproduce themselves so they don't have children who become members.

There is always trouble when homosexuals are around. I blame them for it.

The words "slowly erode" in the title is an attention grabber and an understatement.

When whole churches are leaving, that's more of a flood than slow erosion.

Most Episcopagans won't leave. They worship the stained glass window that their parents donated. If they were concerned with the teachings of the Bible, they would have left long ago when the first public heretics were given cart blanche.

As a former Episcopalian, I must say publically,

"DIE A SLOW AND AGONIZING DEATH, YOU HERETICAL BUNCH OF PILLOW BITERS! YOU DON'T WANT TO TEACH SALVATION ANYMORE. INSTEAD YOU TEACH LEFTIST GARBAGE AND PEOPLE ARE FINALLY VOTING WITH THEIR FEET."

Buh bye!

My folks left the Church some years ago. They attend Protestant services on a military installation. I didn't think it would ever happen, but my aunt and uncle have finally had enough too. They've started going to a conservative Presbyterian church.

The demise of the Episcopal Church will pick up steam as those who believe in traditional values move to friendlier pastures elsewhere.

The only question is, why "slowly"?

My wife hasn't gone to church in months.

The Episcopal church stance on gays is why.

No excuse for non-church attendance. Try a conservative Lutheran Church. I am sure that she would find it most satisfying to hear the Bible taught and preached as inerrant.

Homosexual Agenda Ping - I knew I'd find some articles if I tried.

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and doesn't feel too stuffed... (*burp*)

Well, well, well. Who would've thunk it. A bunch of Episcopalians just can't take it any more. About time.

Let me and ItsOurTimeNow know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

More to the point, the people left in the Episcopal Church after the disasters of the last 50 years are people who can stomach Episcopal Church approval for abortion, homosexuality, liberal politics, fornication, women priests and bishops..., and who can live with the failures of the Episcopal Church to believe in, let alone defend, clear teachings of Scripture on matters of faith and morals.

Who's left in the EC that would actually leave out of outrage? Hardly anybody, so there won't be any mass exodus. The real point to the continued slow shrinkage of the Episcopal Church is that there is really very little point in attending a church that doesn't believe anything. If your personal beliefs or lack thereof can incorporate all of the above, then you are going to tend to be someone who doesn't really see any importance to going to church at all.

Let this Jew chime in and hope that the Episcopal Church disintegrates over this. There are denominations out there that still respect the word of the Lord, but the ECUSA is not one of them.

"What do the American Civil Liberties Union, the Episcopal Church USA, Planned Parenthood of America, the Presbyterian Church (USA), the National Organization for Women, and the United Methodist Board of Church and Society all have in common? Answer: Each is either an organizer or an endorser of Sunday's pro-abortion rights "March for Women's Lives" in Washington, DC."
