Ladysmith, how nice of you to thank us. I'm glad you understand HTML and know how to use it! I'm lucky if I can post a picture or enlarge a font size!

Good luck with your data base test. It'll be a snap for you. Once you get the gist of it, they seem to work similar. ACT! is what I have used for years. Microsoft is probably more popular and widespread and marketable though.

Toodles :-)

Hunter Slay Suspect's Daughter Speaks Out

CARRIE ANTLFINGER

Associated Press

MILWAUKEE - The daughter of a Minnesota man accused of killing six hunters in northwestern Wisconsin said Sunday she was shocked to hear about her father's alleged crimes and called him a great person.

"He loves his family very much," Kia Vang said at a news conference with her father's new lawyers. "I don't know what to say but the truth will eventually come out either one way or another."

Her father, Chai Vang, 36, is accused of shooting eight deer hunters Nov. 21 - killing six and injuring two - after a dispute involving a tree stand on private land.

Chai Vang, a Hmong immigrant from St. Paul, Minn., told authorities the hunters surrounded him and used racial slurs before one fired a shot at him. One of the survivors said Vang fired the first shot.

Vang remained in jail Sunday in lieu of $2.5 million bail. He was expected to be charged Monday; an initial court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday.

Vang has retained three new lawyers, two of whom have previously represented high-profile clients.

Jonathan Smith helped represent former Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura, who was acquitted of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in 2001. His partner, Steven Kohn, represented Christopher Scarver, who killed serial killer Jeffery Dahmer 10 years ago at Columbia Correctional Institution.

Vang's third attorney, James Mentkowski, has represented many Hmong clients and has been involved with a church-based program in Milwaukee that helps Hmong immigrant families adapt to American culture.

Mentkowski said Hmong community leaders asked him to express their condolences to the families involved and the entire Wisconsin hunting community.

"The Hmong community recognizes the special place that the deer hunt holds in our culture," he said "They recognize these regrettable incidents have cast a pallor to some degree over the entire hunt."

Vang was previously represented by a public defender. Kohn would not say how the lawyers were retained, but he said they did not approach Vang's family themselves.

Kohn said he hopes Vang can get a fair trial in Sawyer County but would not rule out trying to get a change of venue.

Funerals for four of the six victims have already been held. The other two funerals were planned for Monday.

Hunter's attorneys say main question is why shooting occurred

BY ANGELA ROZAS

CHICAGO - (KRT) - Attorneys for a man held in connection with the shooting death of six deer hunters in Wisconsin said Sunday the real question is not whether Chai Soua Vang shot the hunters, but why.

"We certainly are making no judgments or jumping to any conclusions," said Steven Kohn at a news conference he and Vang's two other attorneys held in Milwaukee. "This certainly does not seem to be a who-dunnit ... it seems to be a why-dunnit."

The attorneys would not comment on specifics in the case, including authorities' reports that Vang told them he was called derogatory names and shot at before he returned fire, killing six and wounding two others in Wisconsin's north woods.

Vang, 36, a Hmong immigrant from Laos and a naturalized U.S. citizen, has been in police custody since the incident Nov. 21. He is being held on $2.5 million bail.

Charges are expected to be filed Monday. Vang is scheduled to appear at a hearing Tuesday.

Vang's eldest daughter,

Kia Vang, spoke briefly to reporters, offering condolences to the other families.

"All of our families are facing hardships at this time. And we all have questions that, you know, need answers," she said. She said she was shocked to hear of the incident, and considers her father a great man.

"He is a great person, and he does take care of his family," she said. "He loves his family very much."

She said she hasn't had any contact yet with her father, and doesn't know what he did.

"I don't know what to say. But the truth will eventually come out," she said. "Either one way or another."

Vang is being represented by a relatively high-profile legal team. Kohn, the lead attorney, represented Christopher Scarver, who pleaded guilty to killing serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in 1995.

Kohn's partner, Jonathan Smith, represented former Green Bay Packer Mark Chmura, who was acquitted in 2001 of sexually assaulting a teenager. James Mentkowski, Vang's third attorney, has represented Hmong clients and a Hmong community group in the past, he said.

Kohn and Mentkowski took the case Wednesday, and met with Vang for two hours on Thanksgiving Day.

Vang was a valued member of the Hmong community, Mentkowski said.

"Mr. Vang was as loved and respected in his community - as all the other individuals that were involved in this incident," he said. "There are many questions within the Hmong community as to how an individual as respected and loved as Mr. Vang ... found himself in a situation that caused him to respond the way that he did."

Authorities have said Vang told them that he fired at a group of Rice Lake hunters, some of the unarmed, after they hurled racial epithets at him and shot at him, missing him, after he was told to leave a deer-hunting stand on private property.

But witnesses said Vang fired at them without cause after they told him they were going to report him for trespassing.

The attorneys said they have not seen police reports related to the case, and they do not know what kind of defense they may propose.

But they said they will examine the factual basis of the state's case, as well as Vang's "mental health and mental responsibilities." They also may consider asking for a change of venue, Smith said.

The attorneys declined to answer several questions about the case, including whether there were other hunters with Vang at the time of the shooting or whether Vang has expressed regret in the incident.

"The Hmong community, as we do, expects that this case and these facts will be developed and tried in a court of law, not in the court of public opinion and the media," Mentkowski said.

Funerals for two of the hunters, Dennis Drew, 55, and Jessica Willers, 27, are scheduled for Monday. The four others killed, Mark Roidt, 28, Allan Laski, 43, Robert Crotteau, 42, and his son Joey, 20, were buried over the weekend.

Yellow crime scene tape marks the areas of Sunday’s shootings that took the lives of six hunters and injured two others in rural Sawyer County, Wisconsin. The shootings occurred after hunters returning to a cabin saw a man in a deer stand on private property, authorities said. The suspect opened fire on the hunters after being asked to leave the area, according to authorities.

Oh really? Does this guy know every single Hmong person that has ever come to this country? Because that's an incredibly ignorant statement to make, if he doesn't.

He is a great person

Police were called to Vang's home at least twice for domestic abuse, including an incident where Vang threatened to kill his wife with a gun, and his daughter says he's a great person, and the community says he's well respected. Okay then.
