When Southerners aren't Understood.

Ebaum,

"My sister-in law is from Oklahoma and has a slight accent. She has cats and when she lived in the south she would take them to the groomers and have what is called a Line Cut. To her a line cut is when all of the fur hanging down below the cat's tummy is taken off (because it gets matted or snarled). When she moved to Chicago with my brother, one of the cats fur got all tangled up during the move so she took it in for a line cut. She was quite surprised when she heard the price as it was twice as much as it was down south. She confirmed with the groomer that he understood what a line cut was and he said "yes, I know what a LION cut is." It seems her accent came out sounding like LION not LINE and this is how her cat was returned to her. She cried for a week...but not as much as the cat.

A thing of beauty even the second time around. This story and picture made the rounds a year or so ago. It was funny then too.

As a southerner who once pronounced all one syllable words as two syllables

My first and last name only have one syllable each. When I lived in Vidalia GA, it never ceased to amaze me as to how difficult it was for my friends to pronounce my name.

Beats the heck out of Crevo threads. My daughter found this and we cracked up, then went looking for the cat. I'm thinking mohawk.

Funny, funny, funny. It is s joke. Sheesh, if you haven't been transplanted to the south, then you don't know how much truth there is in this. Why does everything have to be made into a red-blue liberal-convervative commentary.

Knew a gal from WV (who was the RA) while we were in college. "Flowers" sounded like "flairs." Her birthday came around and our floor was going to get her a gift. We told the gal in charge that the RA liked "pretty flairs." We were dumbfounded when the gal in charge presented the RA with a mugful of Flair pens.

I went to Florida and for the life of me could not understand a three-year-old telling me her name was "Irene Rose Haynes." I asked her to repeat three times and knelt by her, too.

I worked at a Nuke plant in GA. When I was in places were there was a lot of ambient noise I thought people were speaking martian or something. On the flip side, I have relatives in Britain. Last time I visited I had no problem when the spoke directly at me, but when we were in crowds are in group at dinner I had no idea what was being said. The worst part is that the conversation would suddenly stop and everyone was looking at me expecting me to answer a question.
