In the old days, the indignities of air travel involved intrusive elbows from seatmates and toddlers kicking your seatback.
In the last few years, they included removing your shoes to get through security and having your nail clippers confiscated.
And now this: full-body pat-downs - including bra checks - for people who set off metal detectors or are unlucky enough to be randomly selected.

According to Colombia's leading daily El Tiempo, a female visitor's plan to smuggle a handgun into a Bogota prison backfired last Sunday when the weapon became lodged inside the woman's colon and had to be surgically removed. According to officials, Tirisa Ruiz, 43, planned to pass the well-hidden firearm off to a loved one inside Bogota's Picota Prison on visiting day. Unfortunately, the weapon didn't come out as easily as it went in, and the woman had to undergo surgery at the city's El Tunal hospital.

I have searched quite a number of people over the years.
No one likes to be searched.
I understand that.
I know you can reduce the stress most of the time on the part of the searchees if you:
1. Look them straight in the eye and tell them what you are going to do and how you are going to do it. Be polite, firm and speak in a quiet, but clear tone of voice. Let them know each step of the search what you want them to do ( hold out your arms, remove your shoes, etc.).
2. Ask them if they have any needles, weapons, or anything else that needs to be removed from their person before they board their plane. (Note: You will need to ask your supervisor if suggestion #2 is permissible for use in your agency before implementing suggestion #2.)
3. Call a supervisor or a second person to stand with you while you conduct your pat search if the searchee seems exceptionally nervous, unusual, or intoxicated.
Note:
THIS IS MY OPINION-SUGGESTION: If you find something unusual or something not permissable on a flight while pat-searching a passenger; STOP YOUR SEARCH at that point. Call your supervisor over to conduct a more thorough search in the location the airport has designated.
Any inspector who hits me in the testicles with a wand is going to get a stomping in self defense and have charges filed against him. Yes, I know he will file against me, but there are times you just have to do the right thing.
From the statistics, it seems most inspectors are doing an honest job, but a few % are going to destroy the program with their sado-sexual perversion.

A few years ago, I saw a guy have to put his sandles through the x-ray machine. Un-freeking believable mentality of these screeners. If I ever have to fly again, I'm going to approach the screening area barefoot. Then some jackass will inspect my toenails for traces of C4.

The problem is that if someone really wants to blow up a plane they will find a way. Goodness, it would be entirely possible to have explosives implanted surgically in the body's interior (male or female) using laproscopy. It would only require a minor incision. No "sniffer" could smell it, and only a deep penetrating xray, with a radiologist to interpret it, would be able to see it.
Like I said earlier, they need someone running the TSA that has a little more common sense. One has to balance risk vs reward. Personally, I don't see that subjecting women to pat down is going to stop a bombing. Therefore, women smuggling bombs in bras is not a great "risk" and there is very little "reward" (stopping a bombing) to be gained. However, the public relations damage these new procedures have caused is actually hurting the anti-terror efforts by turning the public against the TSA.
Whoever ordered this procedure to be instituted by the TSA should be canned ASAP, for being an idiot, and an immediate apology made to the traveling public.

Precisely. That is why they need to be searching for people who have the desire to blow up a plane and not searching innocent people for devices that will not be used to blow up a plane.
I do agree with FreedomCalls that they are looking for weapons when they should be looking for terrorists, but the bottom line is that isn't going to happen without a major Supreme Court overthrow of 3 decades of "civil rights". So, unfortunately, if you don't like it, take the bus, train, or a car.
