LOS ANGELES - For relatives and friends of U.S. troops serving in Iraq, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was the place to be. Studio audience members, all with a military connection, were surprised with the gift of a free cruise at a taping Tuesday. The episode of the syndicated talk show, with guest Tom Hanks, aired Wednesday.
A total of 250 seven-day cruises for four, along with taxes and fees, were given in appreciation of troops deployed from three California bases: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin.
Celebrity Cruises is providing the vacations, available at any time to allow for troops overseas to take part on their return, according to a spokeswoman for the show.
DeGeneres also joined with the USO to send more than 5,000 care packages to the audience's relatives and friends in Iraq. The episode will be repeated on Thanksgiving on the Armed Forces Network.
Those same people might say we were overly harsh and judgemental with our cynicism of the Witch.
Some of us may give more slack than others to those who demonstrate signs of sincerity.
And for some of us, the verdict is not quite in yet with respect to Ellen.
You may support queers rights. But I don't. One thing that is quite evident: your hypocrisy of enlightenment is just that.
Well, there are people like you, Lily, and ghost, and firefighter in every society and in every other sub group. Just like there are rotten apples in any bunch. Luckily, when it works the way it is supposed to in America, you can't persecute others just because you feel that way. A society that protects people's basic rights to the pursuit of happiness keeps in check the evil and malevolence that you represent. By the way, I don't mean to imply that I think you can have no redemption. Through Jesus Christ there is a way, but for now that is your role in Satan's world. Blessings, Rambler
I'm not out to save queers souls; that's in God's hands. But when I observe that queers united are trying to change the very fabric of our culture, I strenuously object. Ancient Greece, with all its "enlightenment" never lasted and neither will we when favor aberrrant behavior like homosexuality like you apparently want to do. That's a choice. However, if you decide to minister to Degenerate and her ilk, by all means go for it.
You may support queers rights. But I don't.

She thinks I'm saying that, too. I suspect it's no good continuing to argue, though, because it's almost impossible without getting angry. (A reflection of what we're getting from her--let us not be sullied by it! Hate is powerful.) Some people become wrapped in a cocoon of ignorance and hate over some one thing and can never see beyond it to the wider world. Something may happen, one day, to soften the heart of the person, to break through that cold shield. All anyone else can do is pray for it to happen to someone even if we don't know them. Love makes all things possible. Blessings, Anna. --Rambler
The kooks have been crawling out of the woodwork lately....in the name of "conservatism".
I like her. She's funny and she's apolitcal. She doesn't really talk about her gaydom unless it's apropos to the conversation. She's funny, she's pleasant and this was a very nice gesture. I wonder about some of you.
Quote me one political thing she said this election cycle.
I saw that..it was funny...as was her whole show which is more wholesome than 90% of the comedians out there.
Please forgive me. I didn't mean to impy that you called her a scumbag; I guess I was feeding off of all the other negative posts.
But I do disagree with you in that I believe we can compare this to Bob Hope. I doesn't need to be on the same scale to be considered similar. Why can't we just admit that what she did ( albeit with someone else's money) was still a very nice jesture?
Once again, sorry for implying that you said something which you did not.
That's funny; I thought your name was voyeur,
Agree. But that's the price of "free speech" I guess - some will take advantage of the opportunity to troll and/or personally denigrate somebody who really did a nice thing, sexual orientation or motivation notwithstanding. I just consider the source.
Ms. Degeneres (and her advertisers) made a magnificent gesture, and I have no overwhelming urge to overanalyze or look this particular gift horse in the mouth.
She did not have miserable ratings. Get over yourself.
OK, the show was cancelled because it had good ratings.
In case I didn't make this clear before, Ellen DeGeneres is part of the ilk that is threatening the future of our country. Anyone with any integrity will tell her to shove her cruises up her arse. My son will not be accepting anything from people like Ellen DeGeneres. She is part of the reason his arse in in the shit to begin with..
"Hollywood turned out in force to support Michael Moore at a special screening of his controversial new documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 on Tuesday. Actors Martin Sheen, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen DeGeneres, David Duchovny, Sharon Stone, Meg Ryan, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Jodie Foster, Drew Barrymore, Chris Rock, Jack Black, Matthew Perry, Diane Lane, Marisa Tomei and Viggo Mortensen all attended the showing at the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences Theater in Los Angeles. Moore's film criticizes American president George W Bush's behavior following the September 11th terror attacks in Washington D.C. and New York and exposes links between Bush's family and Al-qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden's relatives. ".
I happen to agree with you, and please thank your son for us for his service and his good sense.
I think it's this simple, S4T:
After playing her hand wrong for years and now gauging political winds of conservatism, Ellen is sending a drink down to us at the end of the bar hoping to make amends and help her rebuild her career.
For some of us, that kind of pacification is insulting. It WILL take more than a free beer.
My son thanks you for your support. And I am humbled by your eloquent metaphor. I also apologize for my heavy handed post.
