Lake Powell Alert - Millions of fish to die for rafting Sun Bathers beach.
BOR ^ | 11-24-04 | Kent Jorgensen

Posted on 11/24/2004 5:15:19 PM PST by kentj

This week Enviro-mentalists posing as scientists opened the flood gates to the Glen Canyon Dam that holds back beautiful Lake Powell. The purpose of the man made flood was to provide habitat for the humpback chub and build beaches for river rafters to sun bath on (the flood thing was tried in 1966 – it failed on every account) but yet they waste precious water and do it again – why you ask? Well to build the beaches – it seems that the river runners have joined forces with the Dam busters in a long term strategy to remove Lake Powell.

In a response to the public objection to the BOR release a statement that basically said not significant impact. Some of us see it a little differently consider this – the lost power generation revenues is roughly 3 million dollars. But even bigger is the devastation this flood has cause to the living creatures that call lake Powell home.

If you take into account that Lake Powell with it’s many canyons and hundreds of beaches has more shoreline than the Pacific Coast of the US then you get a feel for how big this slaughter was – consider this enormous shorline all of a sudden took a three foot drop. Trapping millions of fresh water clams and hibernating crawfish killing them.

So the headline should read Scientist cause ecological disaster attempting to build beaches for sun bathing river runners. Yet the BOR says there is no significant impact.

If a tanker would have run aground destroying the coastline life like this flood has, the fines would be never ending – if a houseboat leaks fuel into the lake the owner is subject to a serious fine – yet the BOR says no significant impact.

Lake Powell is in the grip of a six year drought yet the BOR choose to run the water out of a lake that is less than 40% of capacity – a lake that if trends continue will be dry in two years which is exactly what the eco-nuts and rafters want.

The BOR is doing this under the Umbrella of the “endangered species act” seems the popular humpback chub’s numbers are down so they claim the floods are needed to rebuild spawning beds most don’t agree – when the truth the humpies problems is the water temperature not the habitat that is the problem for the humpy – no this was a “beach party” at our expense and at the expense of millions of lake creatures – way to go you dirt bag hypocrites.

It gets worse they plan on doing two more floods this spring – you guys we need some help here Freep the crap out of them here send an email to your congressman and to the BOR.

Send a donation to Friends of Lake Powell http://www.lakepowell.org cause this thing is going to go to the courts no doubt about it.

This week Enviro-mentaliststerrorists posing as scientists opened the flood gates...

I want to know how they got access to the controls for the gates?

Are there no guards at the controls?

WTF?

Ummm... you missed it. This was "legitimate" officials opening the gates in a very much planned flood.

What I got out of this article is a bit of irony - how the leftist enviro-nazi crowd will use any "cause" to get their way, but completely ignore the fact that they are doing as much damage or more through their actions.

The author doesn't appear to be a "crawfish hugger", just someone using the deaths of these critters as an example of the hypocrisy of the left.

Enviro-mentalists control Glen Canyon dam? Wow, I would have though a dam this size would have been under the control of the Federal Government.

"Millions to die"? When have you ever heard such a phrase used when human beings are not the subject?

Your attention-getting technique is dishonest.

I find it very hard to believe that Lake Powell has more shoreline than the Pacific coast of the United States.

I certainly wouldn't hire you as a technical editor. Why? Because I was the second post to this thread, i.e. I did not post this article. Flame someone else.

I did a college report on this years ago - way before the environmentalists started running amuk. I had no point of view whatsoever before doing my research, but afterward I came to the conclusion that the creation of Glen Canyon Dam destroyed one of the most gorgeous and pristine canyons in the U.S.(along with drowning thousands of 4-legged living land creatures that called it home) and that most of the electrical power generated supplies the left coast, not Arizona.

Yes, its a neat lake to play in. The Colorado River basin was also an outstanding geographical wonder and wildlife habitat. So on one side of the dam issue, you have river rafters, and on the other you have houseboaters (and lakeside property owners).

Unfortunately, flushing the lake won't fix any of the downstream problems that building the dam created in the first place. Its impossible to replace what was irretrievably destroyed. (IMHO)

Additional punctuation and some attention to grammar might make this look more like a serious analysis and less like a rant.

That's odd.

I can't remember these people complaining when Al Gore was raising a river during a drought to float his canoe for a campaign photo-op!
