Average IQ Bush Voter
Average IQ ^ | unknown | Unknown

Posted on 11/24/2004 11:06:21 AM PST by politicalmerc

This is a very interesting table that shows the break down of voters by IQ, race, and who they voted for. You will notices the weighted average of the votes shows that the average IQ of a Bush Voter is 101.6 and that of a Kerry voter is 98.1.

I guess they lose by 3.5 million votes and are 3.5 IQ points dumber than "Bubba" in the red states!

Enjoy

"Who is stupid enough to give his or her IQ information to a pollster?"

Most people have never been given an IQ test. In most states, IQ tests are only required for people who qualify for special education services.

So, if you hear someone bandying about IQ scores, you can be pretty sure they're either making it up or rode to school on the short bus.

Since IQ is pretty closely related to income it might be more accurate to use that instead of race as a proxy for IQ.

And unlike Lake Woebegone, there isn't anyplace around where all the folks are above average.

Not to invalidate your original point which is fine. But this statement is neither a mathematical nor a statistical certainty. Depending on the sample size, there could very easily be places where everyone is above (or below) average.

Ok well, let's imagine doing a valid calculation which produces a result such as, The average Bush voter makes $2000 a year more than the average Kerry voter. Or whatever.

Question: Would you be trumpeting that result all over the place? Let alone as any kind of indication that Bush voters are smarter... :)

My IQ is 137

Everyone wonders: only a freshman? Must be more to the story.

Therefore, the average IQ of those who did NOT vote for either Bush or Kerry is 100.033, based on the following assumptions:

1. Only 25% of the total number of vote-eligible people in the nation voted

2. We actually believe the data this article claims as accurate

Therefore, we conclude that Kerry is a traitor.

(Well, that's what I get from all this, and it follows as logically as anything posted in the article.)

Sorry, but IQ scores above 160 are patently meaningless. IQ is the particular operationalization of intelligence given by one's score on an IQ test. IQ tests are constructed and scored so the average score for the norm population ia 100, and the standard deviation is 15. No IQ test provides any discernment beyond 4 standard deviations out (on the high end--for mental retardation some discern out 6 standard deviations).

"How many people know their IQ?"

I only know mine bcse I took a bunch of IQ tests in college to get extra credit in a psych course. They needed to give the grad students experience in administering assorted tests so they lured the undergrads in with extra credit for participation.

My parents were told what my IQ was after they gave us the test in grade school. They never told me, though, which I think was the smart move. Telling a child his or her IQ, be it high or low, creates unhealthy expectations IMO.

Intelligence isn't the only characteristic required for a proper exercise of the franchise: also needed are ethical judgment, moral beliefs, ... many other traits that are--in my own personal experience--often negatively correlated with intelligence

Honesty may be correlated with intelligence, but not very much. Criminals have a slightly lower IQ than the general population.

But you raise a good point. If I were allowed to give prospective employees only one of two tests, honesty or IQ, I would choose honesty. A dishonest man with a high IQ can ruin you. Too bad we don't have honesty tests.

"Most people have never been given an IQ test. In most states, IQ tests are only required for people who qualify for special education services."

My school district administered IQ tests to every child in every school in the area I grew up in. They probably don't do it now, but they did do it up through the 80s.

the majority of Bush-Cheney, W04 and related ticket stickers appeared on older, dinged-up less valuable vehicles ... Same for lawn signs. More Bush signs in poorer neighborhoods and more Krry-Edwrds in the luxo claves

So Democrats are the party of the rich people and Republicans are the party of the working-class poor? Kind of goes against conventional wisdom but you seem to know what you're talking about.

Regarding bumper stickers: Considering all the acts of vandalism against Republican headquarters recently, no smart Republican is going to put a Bush sticker on his expensive car and risk getting it keyed by some drooling leftist.

By the way. A friend of mine drives a 12 year old Buick with a headlight duct-taped in place and it badly needs a paint job. She has over a million bucks in assets. Go figure.

>Judging by the comments on this board, you have to have an IQ of 140 or more to know what your IQ is.<

Actually, I'd say you have to have an IQ of 140 or more to admit your IQ among this bunch!
