Paper Drops 'Asian' Malkin, Too 'Anti-liberal'

Norfolk's Virginian-Pilot is dropping columnist Michelle Malkin because, according to the paper's editorial board, she's an "Asian Ann Coulter" whose columns are too "anti-liberal" and "seemingly mean-spirited."

Responding to a reader's complaint about the conservative scribe, the paper's public editor, Marvin Lake, announced on Monday that "she's outta here."

In quotes covered by Editor & Publisher, Lake explained that the Virginian-Pilot's editorial board had concluded that Malkin was "too stridently anti-liberal" and that readers objected to her "seemingly mean-spirited rantings and suggested that she be dropped." Malkin's meticulously researched columns have covered a variety of topics, including exposing Sen. Robert Byrd as a Ku Klux Klan sympathizer years after he formally left the organization and warning about how America's failed immigration system has left the country vulnerable to another terrorist attack.

Malkin has also authored two landmark books, one on immigration and the other on Japanese internment during World War II.

Still, editorial writer Don Luzzatto was unimpressed, telling Lake: "I was really put off by her penchant for name-calling and ad hominem attack. I think we can do much better.”

Virginian-Pilot editorial board member Bronwyn Lance Chester went so far as to invoke Malkin's race.

"She’s an Asian Ann Coulter. ... She says outrageous things just to get TV appearances and book deals. She’s the worst of what’s wrong with punditry today. She adds absolutely nothing to genuine political discourse.”

Well, excuse me for stating the obvious, but since your thesis is unlikely to be ever published, I think I'll stick to Malkin's professionaly researched book, thanyouverymuch!

"ahem..pictures?
there IS a malkin rule in effect."

I know, I KNOW!!! Problem is...I am not very clever about the picture-posting part of this stuff. My apologies to all of the males in the audience; one of you will have to post a photo of the lovely Miz Malkin.

"Not a good enough search then."

Running the EXACT same title through "search", with every word exactly the same...what else would you suggest for a "good enough" search?

They left out that she was "born in the USA".

From an on line bio at

Malkin, the daughter of Filipino immigrants, was born in Philadelphia in 1970 and raised in southern New Jersey. She is a graduate of Oberlin College. She lives with her husband and daughter in Maryland. She can be reached via e-mail at malkin@comcast.net.

A doctorate is gained after the writing of a dissertation, not a thesis. And I've already got an agent interested in a version of it, and two other books ideas I'm developing.

Please note, I'm not attacking Malkin's work, per se. Her points about illegal immigration are spot-on, particularly. It's just that she's completely wrong defending the racism of the 1940's, and has NO facts to back up her paranoid/racist assertions that the Japanese-American community was a hive of spies at that time.

Just to kick up a storm, may I point out that she's Filipina? Second to the Chinese, they hate the Japanese most.

"Why does the left always label people?"

Good question - look how they labeled Condi Rice! The first black woman -. Someday, hopefully, it will be announced as " a new Secretary of State was announced today". No gender, no race! Someday!!!

The last sentence in this article says it all about the writer-- the truth must be hard to take!!

"--She adds absolutely nothing to genuine political discourse.”

We've had 30 years of left-wing, marxist, "punditry" from the MSM and they're complianing? These idjits still haven't caught on.

just thought I'd add the link that should only be visited for OPPOSITION (Communist, Marxist,
Liberal, ACLU and all the perverts they embrace) research:

http://www.hamptonroads.com/pilotonline/

yep, the on-line version of the paper that would dis-embrace "DIVERSITY" and drop
an opinion writer because she dared to be "Asian" (and like tough like Ann Coulter).

What a home of limp-wristed Democratic-Socialist deviants!

How dare they drop Ms. Malkin, but run a "Military" section and PRETEND they are
running a rag that's "mainstream American".

Flush 'em!!!

All the "probably"s about what liberals this rag runs could have been solved by a trip to www.michellemalkin.com. She says:

Dennis Hartig, the paper's editorial page editor, dismissed me as "too stridently anti-liberal." Not any more so than Maureen Dowd and Paul Krugman (both carried by the Pilot) are "stridently anti-conservative." As I've noted before, "stridency" and shrillness are in the eye of the liberal media beholder.
