SOME 6000 Iraqi Army troops - the first batch of quick-reaction forces - graduated today from a southern military base, a military spokesman said.
The new graduates are the first group trained as quick-reaction forces, in charge of launching defensive and offensive operations in emergencies, said the spokesman.
A delegation of the Iraqi Defence Ministry and US military officers attended the graduation ceremony at Al-Nuimiyah base is 140km south of Baghdad.
Here's our best exit strategy.
Now the question is how many of them would bail out when the first shot is fired, as some of Iraqi National Guards did in recent battles.:) I hope that they are tougher than other Iraqi guards.
I think the fact we didn't kill off Saddam ( no real intel value) means that the insurgencey still thinks that it is fighting the pre-invasion plan.
The sooner this dude is killed off, the sooner they insurrgenst will get killed off.
There is no love lost between Sunni Arab Iraqis and Kurds. The worst fear of these Sunni Arab Iraqis would be at the mercy of Kurds or Shiites or both.
You're behind the times. No Iraqi National Guard or Security Forces have bailed out since the an Najaf conflicts in June. There were some police forces in Mosul and Baghdad who recently abandoned ship, but that's a different thing.
Lt. General David Petraeus, formerly commander of the 101st Screaming Eagles, has been tasked with training and developing the Iraqi security forces since June. We take for granted the legacy of command discipline and leadership skills in our armed forces, but that's something that needs to be instilled in these forces. That took time. It's more than just getting them the equipment, weapons and basic training. It's about institutionalizing lines of command, and grooming real leaders. That's happening and the results are looking very very promising.
Keep cranking 'em out - we're finally making good ones.
These Iraqi guys are your "Mosque Busters". ;^)
Re#7 Yep. You have a clear view lost or ignored by the presstitutes...

Reminds me of the Israelis back in the mid 90's training the "New Brave Palestinian Police and Military" to help fight Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The end result was that all the money, weapons, and training the Israelis gave them was used against them. If the Iraqi police and troops are so reliable why are our Heroes still doing practically all the fighting?
"I would train more Iraqi's if I am elected president"...John sKerry
We've been training em all along. Too bad the MSM doesn't
want everyone to know that. If someone will tell me how, I'll post a picture of my Marine and some of his trained Iraqi soldiers.
