Heinz Kerry's Deleterious Effect
Newsmax ^ | Nov. 24, 2004 | Susan Estrich

Posted on 11/24/2004 4:25:16 AM PST by paudio

If anyone has some major rehabilitation work to do in the new year, it is Teresa Heinz Kerry. As the Kerrys head for their swank vacation home this year without the press corps tallying how much it cost, or the Secret Service following too closely on the slopes, the might-have-been first lady and still extremely major philanthropist has some major thinking to do about the damage she did to her own reputation in the major run that just ended.

It started out just fine. In her first interviews, Mrs. Heinz Kerry put to bed the rumors that she really regarded her first husband as her real husband. She was a convincing Mrs. Kerry, and a Democrat to boot. Indeed, in Iowa and New Hampshire, when the crowds were small – of voters and media – she was widely regarded as an asset, connecting especially with middle-age women, who responded to her passion and her intelligence. Some people, outside the campaign anyway, actually thought she might prove to be a hidden asset to the campaign, someone who would connect with women voters in a way that stereotypical political wives don't necessarily do.

"But it is a measure of the damage she did to her reputation in this campaign that the woman speaking was a Kerry supporter and a natural Teresa ally, who had been turned off by the sense that Teresa had not been a team player in this campaign; that she is an egocentric, arrogant, full-of-herself, spoiled rotten witch, with a checkbook, who thinks that just because she's rich she's smarter than anybody else.

If that's not the real Teresa Heinz Kerry, she needs to do some real work to step forward."

If???

Duh.

Now- IF the Democrats...including Ms. Estrich could be this introspective and honest with themselves about all the other issues facing them- they could rebuild and be an effective party again.

I'm not holding my breath.

From Susan - The truth is that Mrs. Heinz Kerry has done a great deal more than that, including running a major foundation in the years since her husband died. But it is a measure of the damage she did to her reputation in this campaign that the woman speaking was a Kerry supporter and a natural Teresa ally, who had been turned off by the sense that Teresa had not been a team player in this campaign; that she is an egocentric, arrogant, full-of-herself, spoiled rotten witch, with a checkbook, who thinks that just because she's rich she's smarter than anybody else

Susan finally nails Teresa with the perfect definition.

Great summary.

I continue to believe that Karl Rove's greatest failure in the campaign just passed, was in not getting Teresa a 1/2-hour daily talk show in the 4PM time slot.

I thought that was a horrible article. Poorly written, apogist... Susan still doesn't get it. She omitted "Shove it", "Let them go naked", "Four More Years of Hell!" Not to mention the drug/alcohol abuse. She lauds her for running a "foundation", and fails to mention that what it funds is communist organizations like Moveon.org an International A.N.S.W.E.R.

It was a good analysis of the conventions speech, though.

Sometimes I start feeling sorry for the Heinz-Kerry's for being such ignorant elitist fools, but then I remember that in their own eyes they are perfect, everything is somebody elses fault (SOB got in my way!) and the feeling goes away.

Well... Mrs. Maria Theresa Somoes Feirra Heinz Kerry was probably the most entertaining sidebar of the whole campaign, and I thank her for that.

"getting Teresa a 1/2-hour daily talk show in the 4PM time slot."

LOL, what a great idea. I confess, I would have watched.

I thought Kerry lost the election the night she spoke at the convention. It was ALL about HER. Nothing about her husband, and more important for me, NOTHING about what a great country this is. As someone who was not born here and auditioning for First Lady, how could she not say a word about the US of A? What an idiot...like I care how many languages she can say "Hello" in.

Well, she got the first 6 1/2 words right:

"she was widely regarded as an ass"

She was a train wreck. They would muzzle her for a few days but she wasn't going to put up with that for long. Everytime it seemed as they had successfully muzzled her, my wife and I would always ask each other when Terry Kerry was going to say something stupid again. Sure enough, she would.

It's good to see that Susan Estrich has recovered from Election Night. I was worried about her.

Having seen and heard Susan Estrich on TV, there is absolutely no reason I would then read anything she put in print.

Kind of like little Dickie Morris, the Clinton duo, anyone from the DNC, and escapees from mental institutions, my life seems much better, my mind much clearer and my body much healthier, when I limit my ingestion of inane idiocies from proven mental defectives.

The truth is that Mrs. Heinz Kerry has done a great deal more than that, including running a major foundation in the years since her husband died.

So? All she does is give away money. It's no harder than shopping. Who could screw that up (especially when your standards of 'worthy causes' are fringe groups and leftist whackos)?

What intelligence?

When younger, she had a pretty face and big tatas which got her the winning ticket in the ketchup lottery. End of story.

The truth is that Mrs. Heinz Kerry has done a great deal more than that [i.e., marry two guys, one of whom left her a billion dollars], including running a major foundation in the years since her husband died.

How exactly does Ms. Estrich imagine that Mrs. Heinz Kerry got the job of "running a major foundation"? Brains? Talent? Record? Hard work? Did they have the proverbial "nationwide search" when John Heinz died?
