HAYWARD, Wis. The scene is as old as humanity itself: A hunter stakes out territory, only to find it claimed by another. Modern deer hunters usually resolve the matter amicably.
But deep in a thick Wisconsin forest on Sunday, for reasons authorities still can't fathom, a St. Paul man who was asked to leave another hunter's deer stand began to do so and then turned and opened fire on one of the landowners and his fellow hunters, killing six and wounding two, authorities said. The suspect had apparently gotten lost earlier that morning and wound up on the private property.

Don't worry they usually end up shooting each other or die of heart attacks.
"Like, maybe six consecutive life sentences worth of time."
More like one life sentence ended abruptly with a lethal injection - lead would be suitable, injected by a firing squad...
I grew up on a farm and when we had to vacate hunters it was never without a gun in hand. You never knew if it
was some wacko.
Never had a problem other than a veiled threat about I should be wearing orange (on my own land) or I could get shot.
Btw, the violators were always 50-something white guys.
No, he was an ethnic minority (Hmong tribesman from Laos imported by the thousands to collect welfare) and therefore entitled to protection from the press.
Also according to ABC a US Army veteran who has lived here for over twenty years.
they got a call on the radio that he'd been shot. that doesn't tell them he was intentionally shot. my first impression was that they assumed it was an accident.that would normally be a safe assumption. (when you hear hoof
beats, you assume horses, not zebras.)
fyi
When I hunt, I alway have a small pistol in my pocket. (a small Hungarian made Walther PPK copy that shoots 9MM Makarov) We have had problems with coyotes and feral dogs. We also have come up upon a group of people stealing our tree stands.
Most of the other hunters in my camp do not carry a side arm (I live in the deep deep South).
I subscribe to the Boy Scout motto: Be Prepared.
Local radio reports are he won't even admit to it, and LEO are puzzled over what caused it.
Then this article is geared towards "It makes no sense" and is a biased piece of trash.
If the man has a history of domestic violence, that information is relevant to the story.
Instead, this story is trying to create the impression this is an isolated incident, started by someone with an evil assault rifle and a confrontation between gun nuts where words may or may not have been exchanged.
I notice the part "no one knows what words may have been exchanged" is a blatant attempt at blaming the victim, because obviously a white man with a gun=racist=hate speech, which obviously incited the perpetrator.
Whew. You just know what the tension will be like from here on anytime a Hmong hunter is in the area.
I'm sure they thought it was a hunting accident. Who would ever concieve of being shot by another hunter on purpose?
I read that he had gotten down, was walking away, then turned and started firing.
I wonder if one of the victims shot up in the air as the Hmong was leaving, to punctuate his "get out of my tree stand" and the Hmong thought he was being attacked.
I fully expect a flame for that thought...but it would explain it. NOT justify it, no way.
You're saying this based on what in my post?
Check again, I said he needs to be turned into fertilizer as soon as possible
I'm not condoning what happened, I was taking issue with the comment that the Hmong refugees were "imported by the thousands to collect welfare."
i may have mistook your meaning. i apologize for that. i wouldn't be surprised if the media used the "PTSD flashback" thing tho. They need something just like this to hang their hat on.
I did not know that.
My bad, absolutely my bad. Given this new information I now see that the United States would have been justified in using them for our purposes in SE Asia and then abandoning them to be slaughtered by the communists.
It's all clear to me now.
It's a good thing for the rest of us that Kerry lost.
Republicans control the Presidency, House, and Senate. I doubt that any landmark gun confiscation is going to take place nation-wide. Some of the leftist blue states may pass gun-grabbing laws though.
From The Most Dangerous Game, by Richard Connell
The general smiled the quiet smile of one who has faced an obstacle and surmounted it with success. "I had to invent a new animal to hunt," he said.
"A new animal? You're joking." "Not at all," said the general. "I never joke about hunting. I needed a new animal. I found one. So I bought this island built this house, and here I do my hunting. The island is perfect for my purposes--there are jungles with a maze of traits in them, hills, swamps--"
"But the animal, General Zaroff?"
"Oh," said the general, "it supplies me with the most exciting hunting in the world. No other hunting compares with it for an instant. Every day I hunt, and I never grow bored now, for I have a quarry with which I can match my wits."
Rainsford's bewilderment showed in his face.
"I wanted the ideal animal to hunt," explained the general. "So I said, `What are the attributes of an ideal quarry?' And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason."'
"But no animal can reason," objected Rainsford.
"My dear fellow," said the general, "there is one that can."
"But you can't mean--" gasped Rainsford.
"And why not?"
"I can't believe you are serious, General Zaroff. This is a grisly joke."
"Why should I not be serious? I am speaking of hunting."
"Hunting? Great Guns, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder."
The general laughed with entire good nature. He regarded Rainsford quizzically. "I refuse to believe that so modern and civilized a young man as you seem to be harbors romantic ideas about the value of human life.
