"It seems like none of the victims were armed and I find this a little odd."

More than a little odd. I never go anywhere without my rifle when hunting simply because if you do thats when you see the dear. Even stranger though, if a buddy radioed me saying he had been shot, no way would I go fetch him without a rifle.

I am guessing that their rifles were in cases on the ATV's but they were shot before they had a chance to take them out. They probably rushed in without thinking.

I'm sure they thought it was a hunting accident. Who would ever concieve of being shot by another hunter on purpose?
