By Washington standards, Mr. Bush is a misfit. He's different. He barely socializes at all and on weekends and holidays makes a beeline for Camp David or his ranch in Crawford, Texas. He'd rather invite Christian musician Michael W. Smith and his wife to the White House for dinner than eat out. If Mr. Bush really wanted to soothe establishment types, he'd invite them to state dinners at the White House, after which their names would be in the paper. But he's held fewer state dinners than any president in memory.
Mr. Bush is also a seriously religious man in a largely secular town. This has brought him no end of criticism. He also refuses to hide his loathing of the press, probably the most dominant force in Washington. In short, Mr. Bush hasn't tried to fit in.

I would think so, although perhaps not all agree with the point. You do understand that they do attend Church often, but because of the security nightmare it causes since 911 they don't always go.

We'll see, I guess. Nothing gets reformed without full closure of the borders.

I've never been a Bush fan, but this is getting good.
I think one of the most telling things about the press, and Democrats in general, is that they have such a problem with Bush's faith because they know it's genuine. They had no problem with Clinton strutting out of church with a Bible big enough to shade a small child under his arm, because they knew it was just fake stuff for the rubes. Dittos with Kerry suddenly popping up quoting Scripture all over the place. They knew both these guys were lying to get elected, and they have no problem with fake faith, but can't stand the genuine article.
But he's held fewer state dinners than any president in memory. Those state dinners cost the tax-payers money , if you want a state dinner pick up the tab you cheap a$$ and dont forget to tip or you'll be arrested if its in NY.
That much is true. But if you look at the listings, and maybe draw little circles on a map, you can find large gaps in 'coverage'.

You've got to be kidding. GWB is one of the biggest spenders and growers of government ever. The cost of a state dinner or a thousand of them doesn't even register by comparison. His "no veto" record and "new tone in Washington" don't jibe with his "misfit in Washington" image.
You have that right.
And a whole lot more friends than what's his name.
I read that he mostly has services at Camp David. he doesn't feel it's fair to go to church in Washington and disrupt everything with all the necessary security.... people make fun of him, but much of what he does is out of courtesy -- like missing his daughters' College Graduation.
What the hell business is that of yours? If you are so interested in saving souls go to DU.
If I were GWB and I were reading this, I would repent the error of my ways and stage a huge Texas barbecue on the White House lawn, with lots of rare beef and hot Texas chili and make it plain to all of the media (especially the fruitcakes who eat tofu and don't wear leather) that attendance was not optional if they ever wanted to be able to ask another vile left-leading question at a press conference.
Ah...I think there are lots of news types in Washington who would be happy to sit at the President's table and fill their bellies with his food, and still bash him the next morning. Washington is kind of special that way.
