Dan Rather Leaving CBS For CNN?

New York Post Gossip columnist Cindy Adams has a short item as the lead today.

"CNN rumors up the kazoo. One concerns Dan Rather signing for their 8 o'clock news."

In the past, Rather has expressed admiration for CNN's news resources and free air time.

Three years ago in an interview with CNN's Larry King, Rather joked about being interested in hosting a primetime interview show with former president Bill Clinton.

"You talked about what President Clinton is going to do. How do you feel about a talk show that had President Clinton and myself on a national talk show, maybe 9:00 Eastern Time? How would you feel about that?"

"I'm kidding," the always-cautious Rather hastened to add. But perhaps that bit of jesting was really foreshadowing. That at least is the word buzzing around some CBS affiliates this afternoon.

A move to CNN would certainly be unorthodox for Rather, but given that the cable net has been interested in finding a better draw for its 8pm spot than Rather's former weekend fill-in Paula Zahn, possible huge repercussions from the "independent" Memogate probe, and Dan's propensity to strange behavior, we'd say anything is possible at this point.

Update: TVNewser reports that CNN News Group executive Jim Walton denied that his network was "talking to Dan Rather."

Better call the doctor! Cindy's got something in her kazoo again!

If this is true, it's just plain weird. But then again, Dan's just plain weird...

Well, a liar and a forger make a perfect pair don't they?

TVnewser is about as reliable as the average DUer.

In any case, the "Dan Rather is jumping to CNN" rumor pops up about once every nine months or so, and has for the last ten years. It's as devoid of reality this time as it has been the first fifteen times it was floated.

Sounds like a perfect fit to me. I'm surprised it didn't happen years ago.

I think I'll stay w/ Fox.

I was thinking a particular anatomical piece of humanness that reads like a 'sphincter' joke, but unlike you I didn't have the guts to post it.

Isn't CNN too right-wing for Rather?

He'd be perfect at Al Jazeera.

I heard earlier tonight on Fox that Jonathon Klein, VP of see-bs' 60 minutes, is moving over to cnn too.

Must be a trend or something.

HAR!!!
Please please please please please please please please let this come true.
I would love to see Rather take down CNN and then move on to the editorial page of the New York Times and finish that p.o.s. off, too.

So Mr. Rather is thinking of switching from the Communist Broadcasting System to the Communist News Network. It doesn't require much of a person to make that switch.
