Maybe a little strange walking around w/$1500 but there are
a bunch of people who cash pay checks and pay bills with
the green stuff and money orders because they don't have
checking accounts.

I walk around with at least two grand on me all of the time. Never had a problem with it. I prefer to have money than to use plastic most of the time.

I know very few people who carry $1500.00 AND credit cards. Why would one? If I need to buy something that costs more than I have cash for I put it on plastic. Lost or stolen plastic is much more forgiving than cash.
Maybe you need to get out more, or associate with Americans that make real money and don't trust banks too much.
??? A bank with about a bazillion dollars in deposits wants to try to swindle folks out of a few thousand dollars?? The only people that I have met that didn't "trust" banks were crackpots. Note, put the $1500.00 into perspective. It will not buy a reasonable car but it is alot of spending money to carry around.
Finally, why doesn't this guy just contact his insurance carrier and get a rental car, or rent one himself??
