Poll: Majority gives Bush good job approval mark
CNN ^ | Nov 22 2004

(CNN) -- Fifty-five percent of Americans like the way President Bush is handling his job, while the approval rating for his Iraq policies is slightly lower, according to the first full CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll following the November 2 presidential election.

Forty-two percent of those polled don't believe Bush is doing a good job. Sixty percent have a positive opinion of Bush, versus 39 percent with the opposite view.

Many of the poll questions targeted foreign affairs, especially the U.S. performance in Iraq. The responses showed that Bush's positive approval rating does not necessarily translate into a perception of military success, said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

Iraqi general elections are set for January 30 to choose a national assembly, a Kurdish assembly and 18 provincial governing councils.

If people didn't like Bush, then why did he win reelection?

Sorry, but this poll is telling me something I already knew.

This is just following the pattern of any 2-term president. A president's approval rating always drops during a re-election year. Then if he's re-elected, the rating always goes back up.

Amazing how those JA numbers have gone up after the election. And CNN/USA Today say they aren't bias.

I don't trust anyone hired by CNN to interpret public opinon.

I note the 5-10 point jump in his "approval ratings" AFTER the election with appropriate skepticism. His ratings were probably just as high back in October.

It's been about 3 weeks since I stopped caring about polls heh. Still, this brings back the memories quite well, has it been that long? In any case, Gallup may have screwed their last poll but the final JA number was exactly right on, exactly what Bush got in the final tally.

CNN says Bush has 55% job approval rating? Geee, I listen to CNN once in a while and they always tell me everyone HATES President Bush.

"A president's approval rating always drops during a re-election year. Then if he's re-elected, the rating always goes back up."

His overall approval rating is excellent, it's the spin of the article leading you to believe his approval numbers have dropped.

It's Bush's fault, TDiDS, I find the timing suspicious, and there is no terrorist threat.

///extreme sarcasm on 3 out of the 4. I'm sure that Tom Daschle is deeply saddened!

The 55% job approval rating is good news; the 60% FAVORABILITY rating is great news -- the latter rating is ALWAYS more important the the former rating!!

[FYI: Add at least 4 points to these numbers given that the new Republican:Democrat:Independent ratios are 37D:37R:26I (based on the 2004 election results) vs 39D:35R:26I (based on the 2000 election results)!!]
