Rice Lake, WI -- Five people are dead and three injured in a shooting incident that apparently began over a hunting dispute in western Wisconsin.
The confrontation began around noon, when authorities said a man in hunting gear was told to leave some wooded land by the property owners. The man left, but returned with an automatic rifle and started firing.
Sawyer County was in a virtual lockdown as authorities searched for the gunman. One suspect was eventually taken into custody around 5:20 p.m.
The suspect's name has not been released.
Officials at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake said they have treated at least three gunshot victims. They said one of the victims was transported to a hospital in Marshfield, WI. Another victim is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery. The third victim is in fair condition in the intensive care unit.
Now John Kerry will come out against hunting...
"Uh, ya hey der!"
Well, it IS a blue state.
More Blue State love and peace.....
Some people have lost their minds. I have not heard of a hunter going postal before.
Can I git me a hunt'n license here?
Ya know, I'm not at all tempted to make flippant comments about such an event. There are five people dead here, shot to death, and I don't find that amusing. I don't know who was shot, the article is light on details. It mentions "property owners", so I might guess that the perp who was asked to leave came back and killed the owners, but how many were there? Who were the people who were killed and injured?
I am sure there was an interesting exchange of words before the shooting started.
I don't know what the hell it being a blue state has to do with anything. Let's be real--a DUer could just as legitimately say a HUNTER did this. That no more says anything about all hunters than it does about blue staters. Whatever happened for blaming the individual for his/her own stupid actions and not "society"?
Agreed, but you should address your comments to the appropriate posts (#'s 4 & 5).
How tragic! Prayers go out for the complete recovery of those who were wounded. May God comfort the families of those who were murdered.
I own 40 acres of hard woods in N/E Iowa. It's about 8 miles from the nearest small town and is posted with no hunting signs.
I let family and friends hunt it and only ask for some steaks or sausage in return.
I've been out to it during hunting season and I get one of two responses when I find somebody hunting there. The first is very polite and they move on. The second is very curtish and rude.
And no, I do not wander in when I find a car. I give a yell and beep the horn from the dirt road.
You are right.
We are 0.4 of 1% "Blue", that's about 12,000 fraudlent votes out of 3,000,000 total!
I would offer "regards", but I really wouldn't mean it...
GtGrrrrrrrr

EXELAND, Wis. - Five people are dead and three injured in a shooting incident that apparently began over a hunting dispute in western Wisconsin.
The confrontation began around noon in a rural area southwestern Sawyer County. Authorities said a hunting party returning to their deer shack reported seeing a hunter unknown to them occupying their tree stand. That led to a shooting.
One of the shooting victims used a walkie talkie to radio back to the deer shack for help. When the victim's hunting partners came to the scene, they were also shot.
Sawyer County was in a virtual lockdown as authorities searched for the gunman. One suspect was eventually taken into custody around 5:15 p.m.
This is deliberate and premeditated murder.
> returned with an automatic rifle...
Errrrmmmmm.... an "automatic" rifle? Just how sure are we of that, Mr. Reporter? Is it semi or full? And if full, was it legal or not?
Settle down, big fella, I'm a Badger myself.
