EU Should Not Try To Become A Rival to the United States

The EU should not try to become a rival to the United States, Tory leader Michael Howard, has warned. He said he was increasingly worried about the apparent ambition in some quarters to make the EU an alternative Superpower to America. (snip)

"One of my worries is that for some people the main motive for greater political union in Europe is to establish a rival to the United States. I don't want rivalry. I want partnership."

....the reason I am posting this excerpt is because today, Sunday, November 21, '04, Fox News is airing a segment called "Hating America". I want you all to be aware of the nuances at play in the world. Methinks there is some behind the scene thingies going on that make certain factions encourage the hating of America.... As John on Fox would say, "that's my view..."

The EU will become more powerful than the US when the merged Sears and KMart pull ahead of Walmart...

What do you get when you combine losers...One Big Loser.

I agree. It's all about the money. Unethical people and countries will sell out their own for profit, no matter who goes down while they get rich.

Go ahead and dream EU. Your problems are legion. You don't have the political unity for it. You don't have the moral backbone for it. Your tax base is all ready so over strained with dead weight social spending you don't have the resources for it. And finally, as Iraq has proven, you political leadership doesn't have the physical courage for it.

EUrope, led by France, cannot understand that the US just might engage in a war with them in spite of their embracing a socialist democracy.... The socialist mind is alone the very idea that separates us across a divide greater than the Atlantic ocean. This divide will begin as first economic and political and eventually lead the US to sanction those trade paratners of the EU which are in a warlike mode (EU Proxy?) against the US and this is where the War (on what ever level it might take form) will sanction or break into more than word!

There is no doubt that France sees itself as a counter weight to the US. This is one reason, maybe the main reason, that France has done everything possible to stir up anti-American feelings among the French and the EU. Russia misses its past glory as a military super power, and it is now working on a "new type of nuclear" bomb.

Tony Blair is still congenial to working with the USA, but "old Europe" is definitely anti-American. It will do everything possible to thwart American success in Iraq.

Exactly. France is looking for some backup so they don't get a US smackdown some day soon.

Well, this is ultimately all the EU is about. Its a means to pool the combined economies of the European continent in an effort to counterbalance the US economically, and eventually, militarily.

I suspect that the catalyst behind this movement sits in France and Germany. Some in those countries have grown tired of playing second fiddle to the 'upstart' United States on the world stage and resent our country. They've always felt that way, I suspect, but now, with no threat of the Soviet Union on their doorstep, they are doing less and less to mask that sentiment. These people are actually the greatest threat to the United States in the world today.

I have always thought that the only reason they want the EU in the first place is to try to be a super power equal to US.

It's called "Force Projection"

We are the only people in the world who can pick up a mixed bag (Army/Navy/Air Force, ect.)of 250,000 +/- troops. Move them 1/2 way around the world and keep them there until we say it's time to come home.

The EU? If it wasn't for the Brit's the EU would have no backbone.

The P.U. would not have come into existance if it weren't for it's memeber's desire to become a viable rival to the United States. They will however find out that shere numbers alone don't ensure productivity or a winning rivalry.

I believe it is somewhat reasoned for the Europeans to exerience a natural aversion to essentially becoming something a little akin to not much more than U.S. colonies, through shared desires and policies. The sad thing is, that the P.U. will seek to differentiate itself from U.S. to the point that it will adopt idiotic policies.

The P.U. could do a lot worse than to be colonial proxies for the United States. They are proving that. It's a sad thing to watch.

I love visiting France, Germany, Austria, Italy, etc. because I love to stroll down the sidewalk and see people lounging around having coffee, wine, beer, tea, etc. during the day. And then we go strolling at night and there are always people out and about dining outside and relaxing. But that is a vacation. I can't live like that ALL the time. In France they seem to think it is possible. Short days, short weeks, August off, retire early.....

Islam would love nothing better than to have the EU and the US as enemies. The political posturing doesn't bother me near as much as the death cult recruiting the young. Hopefully Old Europe will wake up before it's too late. A lot of alarm clocks have been going off for them lately. If they push snooze...they lose.

Yep, not so much with the Euro as high as it is ...

With their declining birthrate, their age-heavy system will inevitably collapse. The only question is which country will begin the dragging down of the others.

Just want until another dictater arises in EU and they ( the french ) will come crying to the USA again for help.
I say, if they ( the french and germans ) want to act that way, we should pull all of our troops out of EU , and our comapanies, let's see what they will do and say then.

Let me tell you EU types somethin' from a Southerner. Y'all have way too many differences too stay united for long. The Islamofascists are going to be used by France to control the little countries- but eventually enough of you will catch on. That's when the rounds start flying. My money is on the Eastern EU states along with Italy and the UK coming out on top.

EU all together (25 countries) will beat the population of the United States but still the United States is number one of the world in Total GDP (2003). I have confidence that even EU was to come together, America will still be the leading power in military affairs in the world. As a conclusion, EU will never match the power of the US nor become another super power.
