Just announced: The USSS demanded that Metal detectors be used for ALL entering dinner tonight, and the Chile President *Didn't want to subject his guests to that* so they scaled back the meeting to those already "swept"
I'm sure others wiil add details
I have been waiting for someone to point out that President Bush is probably THE #1 target in the world right now (except for maybe Allawi, Karzai, and Musharaff), and should be able to ride in a Popemobile if he wanted to.
You know, he is planning on goint to Europe after inauguration and I just think that is going to be so dangerous. But, from what we've seen our favorite "Cowboy" won't back down or hide in fear.
Yes, I believe you are.
I don't have the link to the pic, but shortly after the one with the guy with the yellow lanyard, there was another and he had a better grip on the guy to his right's collar, who was now looking at him with an expression of abject fear, and his other hand had found its way around the fingers of the uniformed guard and was applying a bone-crushing squeeze. If I needed just one guard, that guy would be the one I would want. Looks like a pug too.
Yeah, there is a great thread here with Nick Trotta's bio, and more pics

Pride goes before a fall. The President of Chile is an idiot. Get Bush home, the guy is a National Treasure.
It amazes me ... don't they think the SS doesn't train day in and day out for every conceivable scenario? The SS in the presidential detail is the best of the best, not any wet behind the ears newbie ... in another minute, if W hadn't intervened, I bet these two would have found a way to be back at POTUS' side!
In these times, to not use simple security such as metal detectors with that number of guests would be stupid.
Something that instantly stood out in these photos is that Bush's is just different enough to easily be identified, maybe other leaders not in pictures have something similar to his. Just a thought.
I've had a funky feeling about this trip for days...
President George W. Bush: president@whitehouse.gov
Vice President Richard Cheney: vice.president@whitehouse.gov
Please do not mistake the media images of the few thousand rioters for most of the decent Chileans who are actually conservative.
Remember the barbarians Americans rioting in the streets during the Free Trade conferences?
The Chileans scrapped this elaborate dinner for a smaller gathering because they didn't want to subject the guests to that level of vetting. Good. What does this have to do with the issue last night?
One of the articles on the net, either CNNs or Washington Post mentioned he is scheduled to leave tomorrow.
You're still on the Kappes hobby horse?
Face it, nobody believes you that Kappes was the good guy and that Murray the bad guy. If he were good he'd still be there helping, not crying and whining like a baby.
They all look pretty sapppy in those bibs. Lobster dripping with butter on the menu?
The whole idea of wearing native garb is sappy. When heads of state come here, to we subject them to wearing George Washington wigs? Daniel Boone caps?
This is the picture I like, the Detail Agent has two guys pushing him around and he still has his eyes on his guy he protecting. He's not letting these guys keep him from doing his job.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a plan to whack GW.
USSS rocks!!!
Ping to post #253.
agreed, its not like metal detectors are intrusive. you don't have to strip or get frisked. it is about as un-intrusive as a security measure can be.
you cant even get into a rinky-dink municipal courtroom without passing thru a metal detector.
