D.C.-bound passenger on no-fly list (Air France plane diverted, two detained)
KESQ ^ | Nov. 21, 2004 | AP

WASHINGTON U-S Customs officials have detained two passengers from an Air France flight bound for Dulles International Airport near Washington.

Transportation Security Administration officials say the plane was diverted to Bangor, Maine because they discovered that one of the passengers is on the U-S no-fly list. The plane eventually flew on to Dulles - arriving more than two hours late.

T-S-A spokeswoman Yolanda Clark says the other person detained was traveling with the banned passenger. Both are in the custody of local law enforcement in Bangor.

She says T-S-A is investigating why the passenger was allowed to board the plane in Paris.

Passengers, who didn't know there was a problem until they crossed into U-S air space, say everything went smoothly. Some were alarmed when they heard about the incident.

I was told once that planes coming from Europe don't fly straight across, but at an arc,

I was also told the world is round...

... Don't know if it is true, but...

Maybe the FAA is confused, they make the planes land in Maine, to see it blows up. That way it's either Bang or there is no bomb? :-)

I think the real question is, why did the French allow the passenger to get on the plane?

The answer is becoming more clear every day, they aren't are friends.

Well, you know, of course the fact that the airlines are going bankrupt has NOTHING to do with the fact that they're searching grandma in the name of political correctness. Nothing at all. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED to believe that they are IN ANY WAY connected! Ve can haff you SCHOTT!!!

LOL. Of course you are right. Pylon and I just didn't explain ourselves well--we (I'll speak for both of us,) understand spheres, straight lines, aviation patterns and fuel costs. Thanks for pointing out our errors in writing about them.

Just two detained? I would think there would be more than two French on an Air France plane. Why do we even let planes in here from that terrorist sponsoring state? I mean a-duh, but has it ever occurred to the US that the frogs could be putting terrorists on board on purpose? I wouldn`t let a French plane 2000 miles near here, an Air France plane purposely crashing into NYC or Washington wouldn`t suprise me in the least.

Here is a thought. Perhaps ew know the French are letting them on the plane.

Perhaps the French have let them on the plane, then notify the US so that we can catch the bad guys.

Although I m inclined to think that France is our enemy, this is a possibility.

Maybe a better question is: Why do we allow flights from France?

That's an easy one. The person was either middle eastern or french.
