The girl's white shirt was clogged with blood. Her attacker had broken down the bathroom door to get to her the floor was slippery with her blood. He'd set about her with such ferocity that the tip of the kitchen knife had broken off, stabbing her 11 times and then slitting her throat. She was 16, and he was her father.
Abdulla Yones killed his daughter Heshu in their flat on the third floor of Charles Hocking House, a dismal council block in Acton, west London. Two days earlier, he had received an anonymous letter at the south London offices of the Kurdish PUK, where he worked as a volunteer, disclosing that it was known in the community that she had a boyfriend, and claiming that she was behaving like a prostitute. After Abdulla Yones was sentenced to life imprisonment, he said he'd been forced to kill Heshu because he'd been placed in an untenable position.
In Yones's mind, there was a stain on his family. It is difficult to understand what exactly about Heshu's fairly typical teenage behaviour was at fault here liking make-up? Having a boyfriend? The boyfriend not being entirely welcome to the family? but perhaps the offence was less specific: Heshu wanted to assert her independence and, evidently, she was succeeding. Her father could not control her, and this was so shaming that it could only be overcome by her complete subjugation, by her death.

According to this site, http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/honor%20killing "In Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim country, honor killings are unknown, as also in Muslim parts of West Africa."
It also points out that honor killing has been indulged in by Christian and Jewish inhabitants of Arab countriess, as well as by Sikhs and a number of other religious groups.
Honor killing is practiced by some non-Muslims, and some Muslims, including the largest Muslim nation, do not practice it.
It is likely that the practice is much more cultural than specifically religious, although its less than educated practitioners are probably unaware of this.
The Koran specifically requires four adult male witnesses of the actual act in progress before a woman can be convicted of and punished for adultery, and then the punishment comes from the state, not the family.
Eeeew!
How to answer this escapes me. Are there four adult males present when a woman commits adultry with a man. Do they post invitations?
"The must all be rounded up and deported to their country of origin; or shot down like diseased dogs if they resist."
Great line of the night. It should be carved in marble over the entrance to the INS... (or whatever they call that place now).
I have always said whatever a child abuser or murderer does to a child should, that should be his (or her) sentence. Only slower and televised.
Crimes like that would drop by 99% after like the third sentence was carried out.
"I think it has more to do with an @ss-backward culture than it does with Islam."
But wouldn't the ass-backwards culture evolve into something more civilized if Islam wasn't keeping it chained to the ninth century?
"They are common in a number of countries and cultures that are not Muslim.
For example, honor killings are frequent in Hispanic cultures."
The difference is that Hispanics can't use their faith to justify their behavior. Islam at the very least justifies it. In my view, it endorses it. I've never heard of a priest telling a father it was okay to stab his daughter because she started wearing lipstick.
You're right, it is the culture AND it's the religion.
The Invisible Society:
Women in Middle Eastern Culture

Excerpt:
The concept of honor plays a substantial role in the lives of both men and women in the Middle East. As previously explained, Middle Eastern society often revolves around the concept of public morality. Within this type of society, honor is of supreme importance. Fear of scandal is a major consideration in the daily lives of many Arabs.11 Upholding the honor of the family and protecting it from dishonor is a vital responsibility.
The family is at the core of women's position in Middle Eastern society. Furthermore, the family is the centerpiece of society in Arab states. It is the basic unit from which all other establishments revolve; it has shown great resilience and proven to be especially successful in the Middle East. 36 As is made apparent through the Arab proverb, "To forfeit one's family is to forfeit one's dignity," the family is held in very high regard, 37 and is even considered "sacrosanct" by men. 38 The contemporary Muslim view sees the family as responsible for the rearing of dedicate Muslims instilled with the "proper" cultural values. This responsibility rests on the shoulders of women. 39
Nope. The story is that Mohammed's favorite wife got lost during a night march in the company of a handsome young soldier. The next day, when she caught up with the rest of the group, some demanded that Mohammed have her executed to "cleanse his honor."
He didn't want to do this, so he had the convenient revelation that four male witnesses were required to prove adultery by a women, thus making it almost impossible to prove under the letter of the Koranic law. Of course, Muslims have found a lot of ways around this ruling, but that is what the Koran says.
It is fascinating that what the Koran actually says about women and adultery is almost exactly the opposite of what most Muslims actually do.
this was a pretty good article,if you over look the left wing BS the author was obliged to include.
Europe and the US and Canaduh and Australia MUST END IMMIGRATION NOW. We all must also begin a review of our laws so that citizenship can be revoked. The Muslim terrorists must be ground under our heels and eradicated.
I want the US to remain a First world country. We must force our gov't to end immigration and/or change the lottery system. If I wanted to live in the 3rd world, I'd move there.

Not to start a brush fire here.... We have honor killings every day in America.... What else would call a murder-by-way-of-abortion that takes place because someone doesn't want her family (or his family) to know a child now exists (though not out of the womb, yet) as a result of sexual activity? Or the older woman/man who doesn't want to deal with an additional life - they wouldn't think of letting it live and giving it up - because it would make them look bad to their own circle of friends....Sounds an awful lot like a 'honor killing,' if you take off the rose colored glasses...
Its also interesting that the Muhammid was enlightened by the angel Gabriel about the verses that would become the Koran hundreds of years after Chritianity and Judaism were already around.
If there were copyright and trademark laws back then I think that ol Muhammid would have been giving up a camel or two to pay those legal fees and fines.
Everything in the Koran had already been written somewhere else by the time he came up with it. He changed just enough to be able to say it was ok to plunder booty and attack and tax nonbelievers so he could become rich.
Another interesting fact is that the Koran says that the people under Islam cannot split into different sects, but they did. Also, the different sects split as the result of a critique of the fundamental beliefs of Islam and a critique of the Koran, which is also a big no-no.
So basically its a copied, junk religion, with fatal flaws at its core.
This is why a ban on the headscarf would be so beneficial to society. The headscarf is tied to rape and murder and abuse, rather than a religious symbol.
How is it that I knew before I read this article it would be about a Moslem man killing a woman?
