President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.
Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.
"Bring 'em on...in." ?
President Bush shows that loyalty goes both ways.
I agree.
If so, they failed. Meanwhile, providing a perfect opportunity for our President to distinguish himself on the international stage and show these pukes exactly what kind of man is driving this bus.
Go gettem George!
Haven't you heard the liberal women discuss Laura's look? Why, my goodness, she's nothing but a Stepford Wive with a strange, dreamy, robot, drugged look. They wanted a First Lady with some "life."
kerry pointed all the time and it meant nothing but a camera pose.
Bush points and it means something. (ie "he's with us.")
My husband, an American, is from Chile originally. He said, "I'm so embarrassed!" Then he called one of his brothers in Santiago to laugh at him.
Seriously, though, I think it was some communication breakdown. Somebody obviously didn't tell the guards at the door that these SS agents would accompany the president inside the building. Chile's not like the other South American countries. It's a pretty cool country, and their military and police (paramilitary) are very professional and well-trained, although on a small scale. I think this snafu was a goof-up on the Chilean side, but since the SS are the ones ultimately responsible for the president, they're the ones who can't afford to allow these things to happen...ever.
Have you ever noticed when you look up at the night sky the LORD put a W up there?

I agree. And you can see, NOBODY has their eyes trained on the President.
I am late to this thread, but I agree with you and that there was going to be an attempt on President Bush and his quick actions most likely prevented his own assassination. We all need to pray for President Bush.
"Diplomacy...the art of telling someone to got to Hell and making them look forward to the trip."
Just s*m*i*l*e nice when you tell 'em! :) (A really big, $hit eat'n one works too!)
Would cause a furor.
Still, I greatly agree with you.
COUNT ON IT even SS that accidnetly bump him into on ski slope remember that dude LOL!
I agree! An unprotected gun and the President in the middle of a skirmish. Very scary.
Where else could I learn the definitions of scrum, maul and ruck in the same day.
"Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information upon it."
Samuel Johnson
That is indeed a VERY disturbing picture. That officer's gun is there for the taking.
Bush is aware of his people. He halts while walking with Laura and some dignitary...and sees the problem.
...and he goes over there HIMSELF and takes care of it. Reaching in, grabbing his man and telling the Chileans that that agent is with him and he's coming in.
"Chilean security tried to stop the president's Secret Service from accompanying him," said White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan. "He told them they were with him and the issue was resolved."
Most would have wlaked right on by figuring it was beneath them to get involved. Think Clinton or Kerry.
Then, the agent is in and doing his job.
Word of what Bush did there will spread through the ranks like wild fire.
Bush is a leader...one that will inspire people to follow. He's not afraid to get right down to their level and get involved on behalf of his own. Says a lot.
AWESOME !!!
