President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.
Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.
It's not the US Secret service fault.
Thank you for the ping!
Wow, it was even worse than I thought.
Someone on the other thread asked about whether or not the Secret Service agents were armed. (I knew they were, but someone asked.)
The first picture clears that up. You can see the gun at his hip.
As soon as, Kerry would have noticed the fracus, he would have about face and hauled a$$.
I agree. President Bush's decision to go back to get his bodyguard most likely prevented his own assassination. Again, IMHO this was no mistake.
That is a definition of character....it doesnt matter who the people are that are involved....the issue is what's the right thing to do. He dumped the pres of CHile to rescue his body guard who was being mistreated. I sleep better at night knowing that we have that kind of man in the WHite House.
I wonder if the reason the Arabs hate us so much is that we are the only other people with a leader who knows when to say enough is enough.
There is no such thing as detente with a pack of wolves. The only way you can be safe around them is when they are dead. George W. knows it...and the terrorists know that he knows it. We really need to pray for protection during the inauguration.
You should have followed that back a few posts my dear.
We were NOT talking about the Secret Service. We were talking about the Chilean security.
I know this was not the fault of the Secret Service.
I would like to know the SOP for a SS Agent being deprived access to the President in this situation. Isn't the SS Agent to stick with him at all cost no matter what? It is quite possible the President prevented his own assassination attempt and a shootout between our guys and theirs.
One thing about W is, he is real, there is no act, no manipulation by him or the media to make him look like something he is not.
He is the Real McCoy.
On the other hand there was Kerry. His whole campaign was trying to fool people into believing he was a man. He is a joke, just like his party.

He had a very special way of asking for votes the night before elections, too. Something like 'I'm George Bush and I'm askin' for your vote, thank you.' It was pure Texas, pure everyday normal American, and was markedly different from the usual last words from big time politicians. He said four years ago that if he lost, he'd go home to Crawford, Texas, and lead a wonderful life. As simple as that, and aren't we lucky we have him in DC for four more years. Everybody's thinking it and maybe a few said it, but Ronald Reagan would've done just what GW did last night in Chile.
PASSING IT ON !!!
Fox is saying this am that yesterday, before the President arrived, there was a big argument with Chilean security about GW's secret service traveling with him. Evidently this is unusual, not done by other heads of state. Chile's machismo was offended. (What are you saying? That we can't protect your president!) So there was bad blood brewing here even before last night. GW settled the matter nicely. Chile got a black eye and deserved it.
"The President is doing just has he should, TRUST the Military, they won't hang a Marine out in the wind, the Media will answer, or be called to answer by us, or we deserve the Press that we have, this is on your "our" shoulders, it is way too early to involve the President."
Exactly. I wrote last week to NBC News about their coverage of this Marine, expressing my disapproval, and also cc'd Rummy, the Marine Corps commandant, and the House and Senate Armed Services Committees on it, so that everyone involved knows that THIS American supports our Marines doing their job over there without the second-guessing. Everyone here can do the same.
:-)
Lucky you! Say hi and thanks to your son in-law from all of America, please!!!! Prayers, too.
It's fun to watch them. Perpetual car wreck day in and day out.

Awesome picture! Lucky you!
Good morning, David. How's it going?
